In which year on this day did Hans the Hacker first appear? For extra credit: What is he famous for?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, September 9, 2011 - 07:50 am:

I'm going to guess at 1998, but it's totally a guess cuz I have no idea who Hans the Hacker is, lol.

It's going to be another gorgeous day out there today.

Happy Friday everybody!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, September 9, 2011 - 07:52 am:

Oh, and maybe he's a clown???? Totally guessing here.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, September 9, 2011 - 07:54 am:

1998 or 1999?

April 1, 1999
Hacker Returns Control to Pasty Central
(Calumet) - Late on April Fool's Day, the notorious "Hans the Hacker" surrendered to authorities when Pasty Central officials agreed to his demands. In a move which surprised North American viewers, the Hacker commandeered the Pasty.Com website and translated it into German, demanding more coverage of Oktoberfest, etc. on the Pasty Cam. Numerous emails and phone calls from concerned viewers prompted Pasty Central management to end the standoff by agreeing to treat Hans to lunch at the Country Haus. Operations have returned to normal.

I had heard that after the "hacking" incident, Hans teamed up with his brother Franz and together they began a fitness craze across the country, even appearing on Saturday Night Live. Their slogan: "Veer here to pump *clap hands*, you up!!"

By Pat & Glenda (Gormfrog) on Friday, September 9, 2011 - 08:56 am:

Hans had ideas, the function of which was not always to be realized, but like the North Star, to serve as a guiding point!

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Friday, September 9, 2011 - 08:57 am:

Oh Geeze Capt.! What a way to start the day!....*clap your hands*...giggle. Saturday Night Live will never be the same.

I'll try for the extra credit. :)

A photo of Hans the Hacker first appeared in 1998 ... he was famous for his April Fool on this website in 1999, where he had changed the English to German. He wrote:

"Dis vebsite ist now under my control (hahaha!)... I'm Hans (hahnz') the Hacker... Your vurst nightmare, Pasty Central. Here I am in my clever disguise at Michigan Tech, hacking into your computer. ...undt now I have taken over da controls!! hahaha!!! I have redone everything in German!!! Today only your German visitors vill understand deese pages!!

I do dis to protest your coverage of da U.P.!! You seem to think only Finnish and Cornish people are Yoopers... and neglect to cover da German influence. I make tree demands, before I will restore control to you:
1. Pay more attention to ALL nationalities.
2. Get Pasty Cam shots of Oktoberfest next time!!!
3. Take me to lunch at the Country Haus.

Hans the Hacker, April Fool"

I can tell there aren't many Packers fans in the Pasty Central area. No comment on last night's game?
Kid Rock, Maroon 5, and Lady Antebellum performed before the game. And afternoon concert that attracted about 50,000 according to the local newspaper. My grandkids went and said it was a real cool experience.
On to the football game--------Packers won over the Saints 42 - 34. Was a well played game.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Friday, September 9, 2011 - 01:57 pm:

Tom I was wondering about that too. I had a very poor night before and kept falling asleep in recliner!. Finally gave up in begining of 4th quarter. Prayed they kept the lead. And first thing this a.m. I reassured myself that they DID win. Never have done that before. Maybe I'll need to take a 'senior nap' on game days. I do like the Saints but way behind the Pack tho.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, September 9, 2011 - 02:12 pm:

Truth is the Packers won, but the Saints played a heck of a game as well and almost pulled it out in the end. A preview of the NFC Championship game in January perhaps???

Good pictures. R.I.P., Kevin.

Watched the game, Tom. As usual, Kid Rock rocked, Lady Antebellum and Maroon 5 were great. Sat on the edge of my seat watching the first great game of the season. Goooo Packs!

Started on the firewood today for the deep winter. We call it "magic firewood" because it heats you up twice. Only a wood guy would understand that. :)

By Tom (Tom) on Friday, September 9, 2011 - 04:20 pm:

Hollidays-------I get the heats up twice. Hate to admit this but when I was a kid------so long ago,
we burned wood in our stoves. So, my father had a quota of trees to cut early in the summer. Each day
we had to cut some number. I was just a young kid but I had cut 5 trees down. Axe and a crosscut with one of the older brothers. Sure is a long time ago. This is a late post for this site. Everyone who reads it is done for the day.

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Friday, September 9, 2011 - 04:32 pm:

Not done for the day, Tom. Still working on that wood. :) Getting ready for "deep winter". Just came in to make supper; "BQ pork chops on the grill, corn from Bruce Crossing, potatoes from Baraga. Dessert will be; more wood stacking. :)
Another picture/perfect day in Ontonagon.

It was a great game last night. Two of my favorite QB's were going head to head. Love Drew Brees and love Aaron Rodgers. Also love Tom Brady and Matt Stafford. Anxious to see how he'll perform this year. I love New Orleans and was kind of hoping they'd come from behind to win it, but what a great game to open the season.
