Good Morning! This has been an educational week for me. Our Scottie, Brimley, has been diagnosed with diabetes. The routine is getting easier, he doesn't mind me giving his insulin injections twice daily and these are easier than giving the horses their yearly vacc. Insulin and diet change Brimley will be able to live just as happy and long life as a non diabetic dog. At least Brimley can't be guilty of stashing candy bars in his pockets like my dad always did...:)

JT...that is unfortunate news regarding Brimley. I didn't even know that animals could get diabetes. Fortunately for Brimley, you can control his diet and weight. With humans, another important factor is exercise so maybe you two could start jogging together, or biking and Brimley could run along side...maybe even some doggie Speedos :)

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Thursday, August 11, 2011 - 09:46 am:

LOL Alex what an image. A Scottie in speedos! Janie I'm glad they can treat doggies now for diabetes. I know how much our four-legged friends mean in our lives. Good luck.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Thursday, August 11, 2011 - 11:08 am:

JT- Im an insulin dependent diabetic, just make sure Brimley keeps eating. Reactions or low sugars are bad for dogs and humans. It's hard on the organs, I always keep gatorade and glucose tablets with me. If he's laying around too much, he might have too much insulin. Just my opinion, my best for Brimley!

Okay the date is set, 8/15 my micro bleeding polyps are coming out, with a surgeon standing by in case I bleed afterward, what fun! At least they are benign. Looking forward to feeling better!

Uncle Chuck --

We're pulling for ya! While we're praying, we want you to be visualizing November 15 in Keweenaw County.

Thank You everyone for your caring thoughts for Brimley! He's off to a good start as we caught this early before any damage to his pancreas, kidneys, etc. We have a great vet and as Brimley's parents Bob and I are 150% dedicated to monitoring his health. Uncle Chuck, you are in our prayers and thoughts with your up-coming procedure! You have the U.P. sisu to get through it!!

By Hollidays (Hollybranches) on Thursday, August 11, 2011 - 04:52 pm:

So sorry about your Scottie, Janie. I have a Westie and just love those two breeds. Wanted to get a Scottie when I got Yooper Joe. Thought I would call them Salty and Peppers. Brimley will be fine, he's in good hands.
Uncle Chuck, you will be fine, will be thinking about you.
Been hearing loons on the big lake, there is nothing like that sound.

UC ~

Great news that they are benign! The hard part is over ~ they'll have them out and all will be well in no time. Will be looking for a 'thumbs up' message from you sometime late on the 15th or the 16th.

Take care of yourself!
