Freighter shots always seem to be quite popular on the Pasty Cam, so when I saw today's night shot and early morning sunrise, it was a no brainer to combine them together for Wednesday’s photos.

The night freighter comes to us from Mike Schneider, taken of the H. Lee White at Marquette's Upper Harbor. With all the lights and reflections of them, it makes the freighter even more mystical and inviting for those that are already hooked on freighters. Beautiful shot!

The sunrise freighter was taken by Rod Burdick, of the Tug/Barge Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder, also at the Upper Harbor Dock. I'm not certain if the freighters come in during the night to load or unload, or if they have to wait until morning hours to do so, but I know some of our "boat nerds" will be able to answer that one for me. :->

Love these pictures! So soothing to the soul to look at!

Thought for sure that Rod would have taken both of them. I absolutely love them!! Thanks!

Cool! Like that nighttime one...

Real nice pictures again today of the harbor in Marquette. The freighters are operated 24-7 whether sailing, loading or unloading. One of my greatest memories is slowly going down the Detroit River and sitting on the deck at 4 in the morning as the city was all lit up and snow was gently falling. looked like the first picture only with the 4 letter word added. (Yoopers always include snow in their visions)

Carl Kiilunen sent in this image from yesterday, taken coming down the Calumet Hill (M-26), into Lake Linden (for those of you from Calumet, the Lake Linden Hill - :->). You can see what looks like a haze over the town, but it is actually smoke from the wildfires in Canada. You could actually smell the smoke at times, too. Thanks for the visual of it, Carl!

Great photos! The top photo ought to be on the cover of the Bay Shipbuilding Corp. brochure. Doesn't it just make you want to go out and buy your very own lake boat today?

WOW! Great pics of Marquette Harbor and Carl, wonderful pic on the smog coming down Lake Linden Hill. Thanks to all of you!

Did anybody see the double rainbow this morning? Sure was beautiful.

Cough, cough, choke, gag....smoke looks awful. Thanks for the visual on that. Just read that story in The Gazette (online).

Eddyfitz...I could sit in a folding chair with a beverage or two, on the shores of Lake Superior and listen to your tales of your heydays of the shipping life!!!

Funny, we always called it the Calumet Hill

The photo Under the Night Lights is why my favorite colors are shades of blue and purple. Aren't they the most stunning but restfull colors!? Thank you for them Mike and Mary.

Good reflections in the first 2, and I like the road scene in the 3rd.

I love the pictures of the freighters, Mike and Rod did a great job. Kind of partial to Mike's, it's cool and calm.

Another question for my pasty local yoopers. Anyone have any news about one of my favorite people George Hite. I never knew the story about him. But the last heard quite a while ago was he had some difficult health problems. I sure hope he's doing okay. Where might he be and how is he? Thanks for any info you could give.

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 - 09:26 pm:

Talked to him about a week ago. His boat's in the water at the marina. Don't know much past that.

I just LOVE the photos today.... I am so happy to have found a shortcut to pasty.net. I had missed it so much after switching to satellite internet.
