Marsha Galbraith took a walk deep in the woods of Pequaming and discovered a beautiful carpet of forget-me-nots along the way. At one point, the dainty flora bordered the sides of the two-track road, but quickly multiplied to cover the road completely when they came to the gate in the second photo. Now, that's a lot of flowers.

A little further north, Barb Bouwkamp was doing a bit of strolling herself and she happened upon these intricate, purple violets, right in her own backyard. She said she's not sure why, but she's seen them all over town this year and they seem to be popping up all over her yard, too.
In case you haven't figured it out yet, this is your pictorial reminder to "stop and smell the flowers." Do it today!

Hey Mary, I thought you were supposed to be working on that virtual scratch-and-sniff for the PastyCam??? Everytime I scratch the computer montor, all I get is the odour of electronics...... J

These shots are SO pretty. I just looked up Pequaming to
see if it's close enough to where we're staying--Cat Harbor-
-for us to make it a day trip. A little too far, so maybe we
can go there on the trip home. We're just so happy to be
back in the Keweenaw, if only for a week, and we've finally
gotten to High Rock Point and McLain State Park. The road
to High Rock? RIDICULOUS FUN!!! And the stop sign at the
end just cracked us up.

I love these pictures.

Beautiful! Wild violets have always been my favorite flower. Alex, I guess "wild" poppies don't grow in the UP...only in Kansas.;)

By Janet Boatman (Janetnwohio) on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 - 10:13 am:

I live in Kansas and we have beautiful violets don't know about poppies. The Kansas I live in is Kansas Ohio and we love the UP.

To Marilyn B - there were lots of violets and many, many gay wings on the short hike to Horseshoe Harbor, east of Copper Harbor, when we were there a couple of weeks ago. You could try that. I saw lots of forget-me-nots too but I can't remember where!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 - 02:08 pm:

That's pretty funny NancyD...You forgot the forget-me-nots.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 - 02:58 pm:

Pretty purple flowers + a 2 track. Nice combination.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 - 04:07 pm:

uh, let's eee....Janet, in the Wizard of Oz, "Dorothy" and her doggie "Toto" and her other 'animal' friends were walking thru fields of wild poppies in the state of Kansas and I guess the aroma put them to sleep (ie: opium)......oh well, 'nuff' said.:]

By Ozzie W. (10330) on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 - 04:16 pm:
