Marsha Galbraith recently made a visit to the Powerhouse Falls, which is located just a few miles south of L’Anse. This waterfall is the largest of a network of falls found on the appropriately named, Falls River. The river is 40 feet wide at this point and the falls drop 15 feet, so when the water is running abundantly, you get a nice combination of the sight and sounds of rushing water. If you’re wondering about how the name was chosen for this waterfall, we can clear that question up for you… there is an old powerhouse nearby, so I’m guessing that whomever names landmarks such as this, figured that would be the most logical name for this cascade alongside the old structure. Marsha says she wonders how many times she’s photographed this same spot… I can certainly see why she keeps going back there. Thanks for taking us along this time, Marsha!

Another place to visit, for sure. Absolutely gorgeous! I wish these things were running this good when we're there in August, but they're all pretty much slowed down.

A great looking waterfall added to my list of places to visit. Thanks for the info.

This waterfall reminds me of Abrams Falls In Cades Cove, TN (hope this works)

Ya gotta wonder what the residents called it before the power house was built. Maybe the 40 X 15 falls?

Thanks for choosing my pics, Mary! You can park right next to these falls and access is easy from L'anse. I can hear the ru-u-u-u-ush!

OK, I must not've clicked "post comment" earlier! And did you know that not've is a real contraction? Actually, it should be. Thanks, Mary, for choosing my pics for today! You can drive right up to these falls, so great for the handicapped! Road access is also easy from L'anse, not far and a good road. I can hear the ru-u-u-u-ush now!

OK, now I've got two comments at once, made over an hour apart!

This is actually my husband posting. His new acct. apparently isn't activated yet: THE REASON IT'S THE POWERHOUSE FALLS IS THE TURBIN THAT HAS SINCE BEEN REMOVED THAT RUNS UNDER THE BUILDING IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT AND OVER THE RIVER AND IT WAS ALSO POWERED BY FUEL, HENCE THE FUEL TANKS. I LIKE THIS FALLS BECAUSE IT'S NEVER A DISAPPOINTMENT! IT ALWAYS FLOWS STRONG!
