This past weekend was the 38th annual Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen's Club Fishing Derby out at Rice Lake. Barb Bouwkamp was on hand to document the festivities for the Pasty Cam viewers. It was a day packed with family fun, beginning with the actual fishing for the prized catch of the day. Some of the anglers chose to fish from boats out on the lake, while others grabbed a spot along the shore. Barb came across the young lady in the third photo, who was a bit camera shy, but willing to show off her catch of the day, a pike. The activities of the day, weren't only on or around the lake, but also back at the clubhouse, where folks gathered to eat lunch and purchase raffle tickets for a multitude of prizes. The last photo shows the club members getting the tickets ready for the drawings to begin.

Barb had this to say about the raffle and prizes: "My favorite was someone who won the $50 off, on a deer mount prize and then said she didn't want it, couldn't use it and could someone else use it! I'd have done the same thing. Once I won a case of chain saw motor oil at the Derby! Prizes are unique. Thanks to many merchants who donated to this worthy cause. It was a lovely day and even the flies weren't too bad."

Thanks for sharing your photos and report on the events, Barb!

The photo of the young lady with her fish reminds me of the summer years ago that I caught a pike from about the same place. I was surprised to see how easily pike were caught from the shore at Rice Lake.

Looks like a good time was had by all. I Fished many times at Dalphs Landing at Rice Lake and wrestled with a few of the pike myself. On one of our vacations "back home" I took my two sons out about 5 a.m., rented a boat and within an hour they were both sleeping on board. Still do fishing in Monroe area but not out on Lake Erie but in small freeway ponds where there are many bluegill and small bass.

Could you believe I can't fish no way no how. Those poor fish get the hooks yanked out of their month. Then they lay about suffering with no water to live. As a cloastafobic(sp) I feel their pain. Sorry that's just me" :O>)

How can it get any better than this? These photos really got to me, just gave me a big dose of continued faith in everything that makes living in the USA great. I wish I could have been there.

Barb, thanks so much for sharing these great shots. Thanks, Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen's Club for organizing and running the derby. And all you veterans -- thank you thank you thank you for continuing to make this kind of day possible.

Nice photos today. I have never been to Rice Lake, but have fished many other small lakes in the Copper Country while I lived there during my youth. Sandy Lake, Twin Lakes, Lake Perrault, and myriad of others, and of course the Big Lake,(Superior)I miss that good fishing, and the Fishing Derby's.Sigh...looks like great fun!

Those were the "Good ole days" when we would go to the derby with our kids & spend the day there. The kids loved the fishing , the games, the good food & buying the raffle tickets. We usually won a few prizes with the amount of money we spent on the kids. It all went for a good cause & we had a ball while there. I'm glad to see they're still having the derby, that's GREAT!!!!!
