When I saw the top two photos from Donna MacIntosh, here today, I knew there had to be a cute story behind them and sure enough, there is. It goes like this....these are Donna's friend's dogs and she said when he hollers, "Wiener family in a row," they come running from wherever they are and sit up around him like in the photos. That's too cute. Then the big dog on the far left, that you can only partially see, his name is Homer and when Donna's friend points at him and yells, "Bang," the dog falls, rolls on his back and plays dead. She said it's hilarious. No wonder they say a dog is man's best friend, they're great company and can be so entertaining, too.

Today's second set of photos come to us from Liz Siivola and I'm adding these, in honor of the forecast that said we might get more snow today. Liz actually took these shots this past weekend, after the snow we had Friday night and Saturday morning. The crocus shot was taken Easter morning, when Liz noticed this hardy flower poking its head out of the snow, so colorful and strong.

The other picture is from Swedetown, in Calumet, taken on Saturday during the snow. Liz said there were a few of them that skied there that day, maybe for the last time this season. At least let's hope so! :->

Not much of a fan of "wiener" dogs. Had one myself, but not for long. Don't know why, but that dog just bugged me. I'm partial to labs.

We're supposed to get snow also. Raining out right now :(

Wienies! I have a wiener grand puppy, Oscar Meyer! Be careful with their backs, they are very prone to rupturing disks. Oscar had the same lower lumbar surgery for a ruptured disk that I just had 3 days after my surgery.

I love the photos of the Dachsies/Wiener family! They have such great form, backs straight, full attention, expecting a treat! The two who are sitting back on their haunches lookin like teddy bears, always a favorite. And the crocus peeking through the snow is lovely. Please no more snow this year, or at least not this week!

We shall all now stand up and sing.

From a speech by Dr. E. Goodman to the Menominee Boy Scout Council in 1958:
There was a little dachshund once
So long he had no notion
How long it took to notify
His tail of his emotion,
And thus it was that though his eyes
Were full of woe and sadness,
His little tail kept wagging on
Because of previous gladness.
(from the "Notebooks" of Marianne Anuta, my mother)

And I can't upload any pics anymore...is the gallery going to get fixed? What I have done for years, is now "too big" and won't upload?

Anyone else? Thanks!

Love those Weiner dogs, how could you not?

Beautiful poem.

When I saw the crocus picture and on Easter Sunday all the came to my mind was "Hello, I'm Here!"
The winters are long and we have time to reflect and work with our pets. Mine will want her treat from frig, so I say where is your dish. She finds it and drops it at my feet. Animals of all kinds are so much fun. She has given us many laughs and hours of companionship.
Thanks for sharing your pictures.

I had a dog that would bring me his water dish when it was empty, funny thing is, nobody taught him to do that.. That dog was unusally smart, because everything he did, no one taught him to do it. ;O)

Oh, those dogs are so cute! And loved the poem.

It seems like we have had a lot of late snow in Michigan and other areas this spring, but it doesn't last long and I would much rather have the snow than the tornadoes that so many states have had already.

Three fifteen, 34 degree, snowing rather heavy right now, the ground, streets and roof tops are white with snow cover. What a switch from yesterday, sunny and 65 degree.

Cute dogs, pretty flower, and pretty snow scene (ON APRIL 26!?).

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 - 04:46 pm:

Thomas, it snowed during my oldest son's graduation from Tech the first Saturday in May, 2008. We ate at Carmelita's in Calumet, and the sidewalks had about 1-1/2 inches of snow/slush on them. Yikes.

But then you all may not want to know that one year back in the late 1970's, I got snowed out of Denver's old airport, and had to route from Seattle to Dallas to Houston, because no planes could land in Denver. Granted, they have some elevation working there, but still, enough snow to close the airport in May?

6pm in Baraga and the wet snow is pouring down...sometimes sideways.

By Ray Laakaniemi (Rlaakan) on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 - 07:06 pm:

I can remember a Dachsie puppy whose legs were so short he had to jump twice to get up a four-inch step. First the front feet, then the back ones. Partial to Schnauzers, going on 38 years and loved each one. And each of the three was/is different.

When the kids were youngsters, we had a dog named Homer, too. He was part Sheperd, part Poodle, part Beagle and who knows what else. I guess he was a Heinz 57. He was 19 when he was put to sleep. He was such a nice dog.

By Greta Jones (Urbanescapees) on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 - 11:35 pm:

The story of Donna's friend's dogs is HILARIOUS!!! I'd LOVE to witness this, both the "Wiener family in a row, and 'Bang!'" Just TOO CUTE!!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 - 04:39 am:

There's something about dogs that people get attached to them, and for me it's like losing a child when they go to the Rainbow Bridge. My heart goes out to others when they lose their dog, even on TV, as in an episode of the Canadian series, "Wind at My Back."

How about some Spring and Summer pictures to give us hope that it is right around the corner????
