Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, April 24, 2011 - 08:03 am:

The time: mid-1942, the place: a 5 year old camp on the shores of Lake Michigamme. The nation was still reeling from the surprise attack a few months earlier at Pearl Harbor, that claimed several Upper Michigan boys among its victims. The Victory V was a rallying emblem for World War II, and the campers and staff at Presbytery Point picked it up as the theme for their banquet that week.

The week had included quiet times of prayer and meditation at the outdoor cathedral known as Vesper Point. [VES'-per (n) - 1) The evening star, especially Venus, 2) an evening prayer, service, or hymn ]. Such a week in God's Country has been a profound influence in the lives of many young people, including yours truly. I suppose I wouldn't be typing these words from a home on the shore of Lake Superior, had it not been for an invitation to another Summer Camp - this one in Eagle River - back when I was 13.

Thanks again to Jan Dalquist for passing along these memories of Presbytery Point. As we mentioned last week, Jan has written a book on the Camp that you can find at their online store, which includes a CD with hundreds of photos collected over the years.

May your Easter Sunday be a peaceful one. Have a good week :o)
