Residents of the western U.P. woke up this morning to a blanket of white. Winter just doesn’t want to quit! One chilly evening recently when Taana Kalliainen and friends decided to get together for a cookout, they had to have a fire. No, they didn't cook their venison, elk and beef over this fire, but they did share some stories and laughs around it, while staying warm as the chill of evening set in. Seeing that roaring fire, sure gives me the itch to get out there around a campfire again. I don't know what it is, but there's something mesmerizing and calming about a blazing fire like this.

Looks warm and cozy, especially what I heard the Weather Channel say 4 the Keweenaw, 2 day.

I love the last picture. I agree with you Mary, I can be just mesmerized by a blazing bonfire and watching the flames dance around the wood!

By my first check of the Decorah Eagle cam the mother is faithfully huddled over her 3 chicks. Motherhood in another form. The snow is pileing up on her and her nest. At least it won't last too long at this time of the year.

We have a bachelor neighbor who loves bonfires....he accidently set our back field (which is behind his property) on fire one year when everything was so dry. His dad once called him a 'pyromaniac'. :} But there is something about the warmth of an outdoor fire....especially for roasting hotdogs and marshmallows. ;9

Looks wonderful! Maybe some day it'll dry out enough to be able to do that :(

Let us all remember to be very responsible with our fires. Make sure ashes are cold, stur them with water. A wild fire can kill and wipe out peoples houses.

10,000 years ago people were standing around a fire just like that and saying; Ug...pass Schlitz.

Many a brewski met it's demise around a bonfire. MANY.
