They're back, at least as far as Baraga and the Keweenaw Bay waters. I'm talking about the geese and ducks, who Donna MacIntosh captured last week, floating around in the open water amongst the melting ice. The sunshine is welcome, too, as it makes the ice shiny and glittery, while it melts away. The return of these feathered friends and the sunshine give us all hope, that despite the cold weather and snow over the weekend again, that spring really will be here soon. If I say it enough times, do you think I can convince spring to come sooner and stick around this time?

By Donna (Donna) on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 - 06:49 am:

Yes, the birds are coming home...slow but sure, Spring is coming crew!

It's so wonderful to hear the chirping of the birds once again!!

Saw a good size flock of Snow Geese fly over the house yesterday. Pretty cool!

We have geese on our pond but can only hear them due to the pond being out of sight, but several days we have seen a goose walking up our driveway from the road, don't know where he's been, then amble off in the direction of the pond. One day it was being 'stalked' by a neighbor's cat...all I could think of was that cat better hope he doesn't catch up to the goose! :)

"Can you believe it? In our 14th year of bringing a picture each day from the U.P., and we haven't missed one yet. I'd like to tell you how we almost did today, but you'll have to check back here tomorrow for the rest of the story. It has been a most unusual weekend … and I promise I'll be back in a few hours to continue..."

Did I miss something? I'm still waiting to hear "The Rest of the Story" from Paul Harvey, er… Charlie. 'Tis so unlike Charlie to leave us "in suspenders" so I hope all's well with 'da chopper'!

When we lived downstate, in Auburn Hills, in the Spring we use to get a lot of geese on top of the apt. bldgs., roofs and they would just squack back and forth at each other. The apts. were only two levels, an upper and a lower unit. I took some pictures of them on the roof and someone told us it was kinda unusual for them to get on the roof and do that. I thought it was funny.

I agree, FRNash. Charlie, what happened? Looking forward to hearing from you. :>)
Nice shots, BTW.
