Some critters are just made Yooper tough and this weasel, captured by Frederic W. Koski is definitely listed in that category. These guys stick around all winter and adapt to the season by changing the color of their coat to match the snow covering the U.P. this time of year. Fred's second shot is quite amazing, to have caught this little guy so close, you can almost feel his whiskers brushing your cheek, but there's more to the story of Mr. Weasel that day...Fred said: "30 seconds after this shot the weasel came closer to me and starting squirming around in the snow and popped up with a mouse in his mouth. I couldn't take any pics because he was too close to me. I had my 400mm lens on the camera and it won't focus any closer than 12 feet. Another once in a lifetime shot....missed!" You may have missed that "one" shot, Fred, but you still have a couple amazing animal shots and we're glad you shared them with us!

These little stinkers are fun to watch! Every time on snowmobile vacations UP there they give us entertainment to enjoy.

This could make for a good TV show on the nature channel called "The Wea-pers".

Beautiful animal and great pictures. Are they called ermine when they are white, or is that an entirely different animal?

I hope everyone is voting on the Pepsi website. The Calumet Theatre can't seem to get off the #18 ranking. As you know, the roof leaks badly and this Pepsi thing would be free money, like a quarter million!! We will not get a dime if we don't get enough votes. Please help:

Thanks to all who are helping

Need some of those cute critters around my house. Hopefully they'd make dinner out of the mice that chewed wires under the hood of my car causing an unwanted expense.
Merry Christmas everyone

Charlie Enjoyed the Hermansville history story. Many years later, about 1960, I was employed by a highway contractor in that area. We were rebuilding a highway and were crushing gravel. We kept our dynamite, which we received by the semi load, in the concrete foundations of that lumber mill. It was my job to haul it over to the quarry. The area of the old mill was still being used by a company, EX-Collo, I believe, to stack and dry lumber. Every time I went for a load the stackers would jump into their cars to get away from the danger. Of course, dynamite is very stable when it is new. Thanks for the fun memories.

Amazing pictures today! I didn't know that weasels change color like that. Seems like I learn something new quite often on Pasty. Thanks, Fred!
