Trivia question:
Q: If the Keweenaw Rocket Range was "used from 1964 to 1971", and "Michigan's first rocket into space" wasn't launched from there until January 21, 1971, what was going on there for the first six or more years?

(I guess I left the area just a tad too soon!)

A: Apparently construction began during the summer of 1964, and the first rocket was launched (to an altitude of only 41 miles) on August 6, 1964. Then after several on and off years, the project culminated in 1970-1971 with major land clearing, road building and construction, and the launch of two Nike-Apache rockets, the first on January 29, 1971.

Great photos.

The fishing boat in the 2008 photo must have been successful, judging by the number of sea gulls flying around it. It always amazes me that there are not more sea gulls on Lake Superior. Usually you just see a few a time in the air. They do sometimes sit in groups on the tiny rock islands off shore but they have never bothered me when we eat outside or picnic, like they do near the ocean.
