Mary, thanks for putting my pic on my profile, I tried to do it but had trouble. If you'd care to take a look, from left to right, UC, Marty, Nephew Ben, and the late great Grampa Norm!

Nice review today.

pretty Dark in Hubbell this morning ;-) except for all the fire trucks blocking the main street rerouting traffic around the downed power lines.

We went out Bootjack Road yesterday, towards Dreamland, to see if we could see the freighter in the canal. On the way out there, there were some tree limbs on the road but on the way back a tree fell and completely covered the road. Just that fast that tree fell. On the way back we passed a crew, if you will, clearing the road of tree limbs. I 'Thank' those guys for being out there and clearing the road.

The peak wind gust was 81 mph in my neck of the woods. A lot of homes with no power. Thank you UPPCO for keeping us comfy. Only lost power for a few seconds yesterday.

By Tom (Tom) on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 - 10:41 am:

Wow, you guys up north had some really strong wind gusts. We had 64 mph here in Allouez, WI.

And they call Chicago the "windy city".

By Tom (Tom) on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 - 02:09 pm:

does anyone have a report on the height of the waves on Lake Superior? I heard that the waves
would be about 26 feet high. That is really nasty winds. I hope none of the freighters are out in
this weather. Anyone know if that boat is still in Portage Lake today?
Any other boats anywhere in the canal?

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 - 03:05 pm:

From John Dee, at at 8:48AM (EDT) today, quote:

Quote:

"Right now the north buoy in Lake Superior is reporting waves to 26 1/2 feet.

Stannard Rock has been reporting sustained winds of 60 mph.

-John"

And earlier, at at 5:37 AM (EDT) today, quote (emphasis is mine)

Quote:

"I guess it's official. This was the strongest non-tropical low pressure to hit the US since we have been able to measure them. The official central pressure was 955 mb as it was traveling just to the south of International Falls. Just 6 more millibars lower and it would have had the pressure strength of a category 4 hurricane.

Bet the power crews in the Midwest are busy today!

-John"

(Didn't Katrina hit New Orleans as a Category 3 hurricane? -FRN)

Autumn scenes, rainbow, lake scene, and historic pics. I LOVE IT!

By Yooperguide (Huntandfish) on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 - 05:15 pm:

The wind is still blowing; "Auntie Em, Auntie Em". Heard the waves were 18 footers and +. Thought about the Edmund Fitzgerald all day. Always think about the lives lost that day.
