To me, this first photo from Bob Gilreath, shows one of the best ways to enjoy the colors that are changing all around us...at a slower pace, enjoying the quiet time. Bob and family are kayaking on King Lake, which is located in Baraga County. King Lake State Campground is there, too, with sites to set up camp, like in Bob's second photo. He says this is one of the best spots in the Park...sure looks like it has a great lakefront view. There's still time to pack up the camper and head out for a fall camping trip. Just remember to pack some warmer clothes for the night-time drop in temperatures.

Where is King Lake? I've never heard of it. Looks like a very nice secluded lake.

Those are two beautiful sights.....I love the light-green trees that stand out among the oranges, reds and yellows....they always look like they've been 'painted' with pastels. Thanks, Bob, for sharing your camping trip.:)

Awesome photos, Bob! The shot of the kayakers makes me feel like I'm right on the water. Love all the colors in the campsite photo.

I love Autumn photos, and these are no exception. Speaking of Autumn photos, I saw 1 in the Thanksgiving (September) 2004 issue of Ideals Magazine, pages 38-39, of Bond Falls on the Ontonagon River surrounded by Autumn colors, taken by Darryl R. Beers. If anybody has this issue, check it out.

One time we floated down the Ausable River, (not in the U.P.,) on an innertube and I loved it. At times it was so quiet you just wanted to stop and take it all in and listen to the birds in the trees and the fish jumping once in awhile in the water and just the sound of the water itself, wave at some people standing by the banks fishing. Nice and peaceful time.

What made me write this, is I was looking at the kayaking picture and remembering my trip. ;O)

King Lake is a couple of miles sw of US 41 about midway between Nestoria and Covington Junction. It's a beautiful lake and well worth a little sidetrip.
