Today's Shoebox Memory could also be entitled "How Grandma and Grandpa Met", as we learn the 'rest of the story' from one of the leaves of the family tree that Pat and Daisy eventually started:

My cousin, Carole Hess (nee Brennan) sent this to me. It is of interest to me as the Daisy Ryan in the article later became my Grandmother and Patrick Brennan became my Grandfather (and obviously my cousin, as well)! I'm sure there are still folks in Calumet who might remember one or the other of these two people. My connection to the two of them was through my mother, Helen Larson (nee Brennan) who was the middle of three children born to Daisy and Pat. My cousin Carole was the youngest child of Bernard Brennan, who happened to be the youngest child of Daisy and Pat. The third child of their marriage was Margaret (Peg) Brennan. It certainly brought back many a fond memory of my times visiting my Grandparents in Calumet in the '50's and '60's.

Our thanks to George for sending us the tattered newspaper clipping, and to the Library of Michigan for the sailboat illustration on sheet music from the 1890's, a popular song when Pat and Daisy were kids, which also brings to mind the words of a song "Bicycle built for two..."

Hey - if you hadn't noticed - shipments of delicious Pasty Central pasties are sailing out of Calumet once more. Our summer break was extended because of prolonged heat around the country, but now you can enjoy a taste of the U.P. again, delivered to your door by FedEx.

Have a good week :o)
