Nicky Outinen said she was pretty excited to by driving by Mason when she spotted a rainbow encircling the Dredge and old smokestack nearby. She figures she was in the right place at the right time and we're glad she was, even more-so that she had her camera handy to snap a couple shots. The rainbow in her top two photos looks almost close enough to reach out and touch the colors sweeping up and over in that arc, especially the one behind the smokestack.

I'm not sure if Susan Hooker saw her rainbow on the same day, but what a neat shot of it arching over the Portage Lake Lift Bridge, while starting and stopping in the twin cities of Houghton and Hancock. Too bad we didn't have a rainbow bridge like this when the Lift Bridge got stuck a few weeks back. :->

Since the theme this morning appears to be rainbows, I'll throw another one on from our recent visit during the Quincy Mine Rock Swap that occured on August 11:

QuincyRainbow

There really is a pot of gold (or in this case, copper) at the end of the rainbow......

I like the dredge picture. Rustic look.

Every Rainbow is a double rainbow...we just don't always see it!

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Monday, August 30, 2010 - 08:03 am:

Hmmm, if all rainbows are double and we don't see it is it still there? That would be in the "If a tree falls in the forest catagory" wouldn't it?

or if a bear.... well, you know.

Interesting reasoning there, Rowdy. ;) These photos are awesome!

What beautiful pics....the last one, the Quincy Mine Hoist, is the building I played inside growing up in Pewabic. What a playground the entire area was in the 40's.

Beautiful. I enjoy rainbows.

I second Helens comments! I was there too with her & her brothers & sisters, and my brother!
Our house was just to the left behind those trees-- the trees weren't there then.
