Here in the USA, Baseball is considered a "national pastime," stemming from the days when it was the most popular sport. It's still a favorite here in the Copper Country, where you'll see Little League teams practicing and playing games on any given field this time of year. Today's photos from Lindsay White, give us a front-row seat at her son's T-Ball game. It's almost like we're right there with him as he gets wound up to swing, then we join him on base and finally we head out there on the field with him, as he becomes absorbed in the action of the game. He looks like he's ready should the ball come sailing his way. It's great to see these young kids outside, playing in the fresh air. Hopefully it will foster a lifelong love of staying active and getting outdoors. Batter-up!

Oh my such memories of my first grandson's ball games. A big helmet, loose, baggy shirt and sooooo serious! All American boy. Soon enough that little boy will 30 years old, a young man.

Ah, I love the photos! It brings back many memories of my two sons playing T-ball. My oldest played on a team in Calumet, and the youngest played on a team down below the bridge. I remember my older son would go and play a game, come home and play on the street until it was time to come in to get ready for bed. The baseball glove was always next to the door when my sons were going up. Now, my youngest grandson is playing T-ball too! Again, thanks for the pictures and the memories that they brought back.

Have a wonderful day, everyone! (I understand it was 98 degrees in Hancock yesterday!)

Baseball has a great tradition in the Copper Country. Perhaps the longest home run ever hit in the United States was hit in South Range. Dizzy Trout of the Detroit Tigers barnstorming team in the 1950s hit a fastball off Eck Hahka that went high over the fence and landed in an ore car. It wound up in Escanaba, so it was 100 miles before it hit the ground. True fact.

Geez FJL, Uncle Chuck is trying to help the animals. It doesn't matter where it's posted, it's a very humane thing to do.

By Yooperguide (Huntandfish) on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 - 03:20 pm:

FJL, these posters are merely trying to help the poor dogs and cats. Does it really matter where they post??

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 - 03:44 pm:

The future Detroit Tigers.

When the past CCHS contest was on, Charlie and Mary approved of this reminder to vote on the Cam Notes page. It would be nice to see another Humane Society to have a chance at winning. They are all in need for money.

When my 2 boys were on the local little league team, coach told them all they had to get supporters to safely play the game. Well to everyone's surprise that 1st game, there they all were, taking the pose and tapping their cups! I have a picture of that somewhere.... if only i could find it now.

Going to the first T-Ball game of the year this Wednesday. Had 4 grandkids playing in all age brackets last year so it keeps the whole family busy.
