Things quiet down quite a bit in the Copper Harbor area during the winter months, but Cindy Freeman still found plenty to check out on a recent trip UP North to the tip of the Keweenaw. She started with a photo of the Copper Harbor Schoolhouse, which of course has more action going on this time of year than in the summer months. Then she spotted the Grant Harbor School bus, waiting to make the rounds to take all the youngsters safely back home after school. That's something you won't see much of during the peak visitor's season either.

Cindy's next stop is a one that many folks make during the busy summer season, but she said there was no line waiting for a table at the Harbor Haus the day she snapped this shot. Another three months, though and things will be different. I'm not sure if the next photo is the "official winter greeter" for the little town or not, but I bet at night when he has a glow on, it's a pretty sight to see up there on the rooftop. :->

Then lastly, it looks like Cindy might have been pining for some of The Jampot's goodies. I bet her mouth was watering, thinking of all the delicacies she could have bought there if her visit had been during the summer season. If you're craving some right now (or maybe to fill your Easter basket), you can always click on their link here above and place an order by mail.

Speaking of placing mail orders, you might as well add some UP Pasties to your list and enjoy a complete UP dinner of PASTIES, with some of The Jampot's confections or fruit cakes for dessert.

Hate to wish my life away, but I can't wait until August when I get to roam around up there for a day or two!

That's my favorite drive. My 2nd favorite is the one from Menominee to St. Ignace along US2. I do love summer!!! These pictures make me anxious!

Cindy, thanks for the batch of wonderful photos.
I have to admit, though, this winter has been a most unusual one...sun for 4 days running. First winter I haven't groused about in years as it's going so well, so far. Have a good weekend everyone!

We were out riding around Jacobsville and spotted a woodpecker. Took some pictures and looked up woodpeckers and it looks like a male Pileated Woodpecker. Pretty big one, too. We saw a lot of deer, too.

Unfortunately, I now have to give up voting for the Copper Country Humane Society, my connection keeps being reset while trying to to do so.

St. Urho's day is traditionally celebrated on March 16th., with various local activities in the past, but I can find none scheduled as yet.

St. Patrick's Day, March 17th, will be celebrated again in Hancock, with a Parade down Quincy St., on Saturday, March 13th, starting at 11:30am. The Parade will end at O'Gino's Restaurant for lunch.

How interesting to see CH in the off season. Really looking forward to visiting next fall. Thanks Cindy and Mary. Had one of my sons over last weekend for pasties. Sooooo good! Made daughter Jane some for her Dec. birthday. I still have the knack for good ones...yessss. Will have to get one of the Jampot's brandy soaked fruitcakes in the fall! Mmmmmmm.

Copper Harbor looks good in winter, of course it looks good anytime of the year. I can just smell the air as I look at these nice photos. Thanks Mary and Cindy.

Mary, this is the first time I had the chance to check my computer today. Thanks for using my recent pictures to the Keweenaw. We had a ball seeing it for the first time in the winter. Being a teacher off for winter break, I had the urge to stop in and visit the school, but I didn't want to interrupt the lessons. The little bus was so cute, I just had to take a picture.
My mouth was definitely watering at the Harbor Haus thinking about that wonderful whitefish dinner I usually get. I was thinking about those fantastic muffins at the Jampot and how nice it would be to warm up with one and a nice hot cup of coffee. As far as the snowman, he was just too adorable to pass up. We had such a relaxing time, I would go back in the winter in a heartbeat.

Thank you for posting these pics...especially of Harbor Haus and
Jampot. I've been to both many times in the summer and always I
wondered how they looked covered in in snow. Beautiful!
