Brenda Leigh is at it again, heading out on another adventure, this time with a number of "girl" friends. The gals decided to set off on snowshoes to find a Mystery Cabin, located north of Negaunee, which none of them had been to before, so they relied on their trusty GPS and a map. It took them three hours, with a number of hills to climb along their journey, but it also yielded quite the beautiful views en route, too. The third photo is what the hikers saw as they spotted the cabin across the lake and up on the right cliff. Brenda said it was quite beautiful to behold with the lake surrounded by high bluffs, and everything so pristine and untouched, not a track in sight. They made their way across the lake and with one last climb up to the cabin, they had reached their destination....the Mystery Cabin. I'm not sure if that's what it's really called or if that's a name Brenda and her crew gave it, but a mystery it is, because she said it's just open and it appears that many people use it. There's even a sign inside, where the woodpile gets stacked, that tells folks, "If you burn it, you must replace it," and someone added, "Says who?" The gals didn't light a fire, even though there were two stoves. Guess they had worked up enough of a sweat making several climbs along the route to get there. That last shot today, is the group of snowshoers on their return journey. It took them across a different lake and only 1 ½ hours to get back to the camp they were staying at for the weekend. I bet they all slept well that evening. :->

These are real great pictures today of what one can see if they get off the normal highway routes. We used to camp/specky fish down on the Baraga Plains at the "Rat Shack" that was similar in design to todays cabin. We always used the boy scout rule of leaving the place nicer than we found it.

Those girls have to be in great shape to make a trek like that. What a wonderful adventure! I really envy them being able to discover beautiful spots like that. Go girls!:)

My best guess is Lake 8. I've never been there, but looking at the topos--Lake 8 seems to match the unique shape of the lake in the picture.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 - 10:36 pm:
