Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 06:00 am:

Today is kind of a potpourri of pop culture for both Day in History and the Shoebox Memory. Our regular weekday moderator Mary Drew sent me this photo - that hangs in an office in Schoolcraft Township (Lake Linden) - and apparently has never had its subjects identified. Surely among the 7,500+ folks who visit Pasty Central daily (on average) there must be some with memories dating back to the mid-1900's, and perhaps can recall these faces when they were a little older.

Now, you may be saying, "I recognize the guy with the trombone, but I'm not registered to post on Cam Notes" (or you forgot your password, etc.) You are not alone. About two-thirds of visitors who spend time viewing the Pasty Cam and reading comments each day have never registered, and of those who have registered, only a fraction ever post with any regularity. If you recognize any of today's century-old faces, you are welcome to email me (chopper@pasty.com) if it's easier, and I'll be glad to pass along your comments.

Hope your New Year has gotten off to a good start. There are some exciting times ahead at Pasty Central, as we wrap up 12 full years of the daily Pasty Cam next month, and hopefully soon embark on a major upgrade of bandwidth and wireless infrastructure for Pasty.NET. Thanks to all who have supported this project through the years by ordering pasties, using our Internet service, or stopping in for lunch or dinner at The Hut from time to time. We wouldn't be here without you!

Have a good week :o)

Historic. It seems you don't hear of community or township bands like this, anymore.

I was born and raised in Lake Linden, and have no clue who any of these guys are. There are some resemblances to some present day folk. However, look at that grin on that little guy down on the left of that big drum!! LOL....He looks like he's plotting something....got one of them (ahem) eating grins on his face!

Happy Sunday Pasty Land~!

The guy in the center of the bottom photo looks a lot like Elvis. I wonder if he went on to become an Elvis impersonator?

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 02:47 pm:

Speaking of ordering pasties...
From the Pasty.com home page:

Pasty count

Only 4492 more to go to the 500,000th pasty!
Time for a contest: When will that counter reach 500,000?

How about a prize for the buyer of that 500,000th pasty?

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 07:11 pm:

For the 50,000th order a free calendar or a set of Neil's DVDs or pasties each month for a year. I might have to start ordering so I can win the prize.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 07:13 pm:

Oops! Left out a zero, 500,000th.

By Helen Marie Chamberlain (Helen) on Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 08:10 pm:

Dave, I thought exactly the same thing as you...the guy does look like Elvis. Came to mind immediately. Like they say, "great minds", lol.

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Monday, January 11, 2010 - 12:36 pm:

Com'on Evis is impersonating him not the other way around.
