Here in Lake Linden, as in most towns in the Keweenaw, you'll see the kids out running and getting in shape for track season. Conditioning and practice is what it's all about and we get to watch that every day after school, since they run on our street and the hurdlers set up their practice course right in front of our house. My hubby, Jim Drew was out cheering them on and snapped a few shots of them hard at work. These young people really are quite dedicated to being the best at their sport and it shows in how serious they are when they're out there trying to better their times. It's not an easy task when your practice track is a street in town, rather than a regulation track to run on. Good luck to the Copper Country Track teams this season!

To practice on the street, well, to me it makes them a dedicated bunch of kids and tough yoopers. ;O)

Ouch...I would not want to short a jump and end up hitting that pavement. Does the local sports shop run out of knee and elbow pads this time or year?

I ran track for 4 years at LL-H but cant seem to remember where we practiced other than in the gym. Most of our meets were held at Michigan Tech or out in the west part of Hancock. When we were able to qualify for regonials we earned a trip to either Marquette or Escanaba(I still wear the medals on my pajamas, haha). This was great for a kids whose family didnt have a car until in the 11th grade.

Great pictures today; reminds me of all the hard work I used to do when I ran track back in the late 1950 and 1960. Second photo is rather interesting because it the second house in on the right is the home where I grew up. Thanks for whomever took these photos.
