If you're a diehard snowmobile rider, you might still be out there in the Keweenaw looking for the last bit of snow to ride on. Chris Gariepy and friends did that last week and this is what they found. An open river that somebody didn't get up enough speed to jump across. Now Chris didn't tell me who's machine this is in the drink, but it could even be his, since I seem to remember him sending photos of an orange snowmobile back in November when the snow was just beginning. Fess up Chris! In the next photo though, it looks like the riders were able to find a little snow to do some tricks like this fellow making a jump. I don't imagine it was a fluffy, soft landing as the melting snow makes for a pretty hard base of what little is left out there.

The last photo Chris shared here today gives all of us Yoopers hope that we will see the end of the snow soon. The Portage Canal is opening up again! Hooray!

Good Morning! I hope all of you enjoyed the beautiful weekend.I sure did.Spent most of it in the yard and cleaning out the camper. yep,It's almost time. Hubby and I even took a ride out to our spot on the river, to see if we could get back there yet. Happy to report, yes we can! I may be camping by the end of the week.
Have a great day everyone. Oh and by the way, today is day 13! Thanks for all your support.

When we were kids, 6-7-8 yrs. old or so, my parents use to take us to a campsite called Metamora. The other day Bill and I were taking a ride out towards Lake Orion and came across a roadside sign- Metamora State Park. We took the road out to the park and as we were going to the back of the campgrounds, for some reason I knew that is where we use to go as a kid. We stopped to talk to some people and he said he was 51 yrs. old. I told him I remember the long walk to the other side of the lake to go swimming and he pointed it out to me and said it is still a long walk over there, but now, of course, they built a road to over there with a place to picnic and launch your boat from. For 3 summers in a row my mom took us out there to camp the whole summer. I told Bill we have to plan a picnic out there one day. Take some hot dogs and brawts to throw on the grill. Memories.

These pics kind of show the transition from Winter 2 Spring.

Mickill mouse...I like Metamora State Park. When we were younger we walked around the lake many times, even in the winter. We were there last week end for a ride thru the park. Like it better when there is less people, but there were at least 2 dozen campers. IF you have a picnic try doing it early on in the season, as the picnic area tends to be jammed on warm/hot weekend summer days.

Very nice overlook in that last photo. There are some wonderful views from the old Quincy & Torch Lake railroad along the top of Quincy Hill!

FJL -- I must have done something wrong because when I typed the answer I was on the right page and then something crazy happened with my computer and then when I looked it was on the wrong page. Oh, well...I'm still basking in the glow of last week's Early Bird.

Cindy: It's the 13th today. Things happen that we haven't any control over. Enjoy your "glow". You deserve it........FJL

OOPS! Chris, did you end up in the drink?

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Monday, April 13, 2009 - 01:22 pm:

CAROLE:

There were quite a few people out there when we went there. The picnic area is all new from when I was a kid. The man we talked to said all of the area 'up front' is all brand new and the area where we use to camp is the old section. It was a strange feeling to be there.
