Fulton is located adjacent to Mohawk here in the Keweenaw and if there wasn't the sign that announces the change in town, you'd never know you'd entered a different location. You can see from today's photo, snapped by Brita Haapala, that the snow has begun to melt and is creating new fun for the kids. What child could resist walking through, jumping in or just playing in the middle of any puddle they see. Of course I don't recommend this activity, especially when the puddle is right on the road like this Fulton waterhole. The only problem with puddles of this size, is when the temps go chilly again, there's a natural ice rink to go slip sliding away when you press on the brakes. Looks like Spring is at least beginning... Hooray!

Towering over the trees behind the Fulton sign, it looks like the cell phone tower in that area, which reminds me of a question I wanted to toss out to local Pasty Cam watchers. Would anybody in the area have an Alltel cell phone they are no longer using? My phone has just about died and I need a quick replacement if you have one you would be willing to part with. I can take care of the programming change, but I just need to get a unit compatible with the Alltel network.

I would say just give me a call... but it might not get through! Better to email chopper@pasty.com . Thanks!

We now return you to your regular Cam Notes conversation.

My family spent our summer vacations in Fulton. At Grandma had a house on Horseshoebend. My Dad grew up in Fulton. Still drive aroud Fulton and Horseshoebend every summer. Many fond memories.

I'm guessing that picture is recent, so while it's thawing in the Keweenaw, I looked outside this morning 2 let our 2 dogs out, and we have about a 1/2 inch of the white stuff on the ground here in the Northern L.P.

Kim- which house on Horseshoe Bend did you Gma live at?

By Kim (Kim) on Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 10:21 am:

Brita, Her house is at the beginning of the bend on the right hand side. It's still standing but not live able. Last name Briskey.

Watch the water but also watch the black ice on sidewalks when the temp hits 30 or 32. Treacherous! I can recall at least six people hurt this winter when falling on the ice, one fatality in Minnesota.

By Kenty (Dashamo) on Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 10:52 am:

Kim,

What is your Dad's name? I lived in Fulton as a kid in the early 60's, right across the street from the old ice rink.

By Brita Haapala (Britach) on Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 11:51 am:

Thanks Kim. I know the house. In fact, there's a red fox living in it this winter. So it's habitable for someone. :)

By Kim (Kim) on Saturday, March 21, 2009 - 01:00 pm:

Kenty, My Dad's last name is Briskey I'm sure he's older than you are. I know where the old ice rink is. I have a cousin that lived by there.
Wetelainen's

Brita, Well that's good the house is still habitable for someone even if it is a fox.

By Kenty (Dashamo) on Sunday, March 22, 2009 - 07:52 am:

Kim,

Dave Wetelainen perhaps?

By Kim (Kim) on Sunday, March 22, 2009 - 11:35 am:

Yes you're right..

By Kenty (Dashamo) on Sunday, March 22, 2009 - 07:30 pm:

Dave lived in a corner house on Fulton avenue I believe. There was a short cut from his house right into our backyard.

By Kim (Kim) on Sunday, March 22, 2009 - 10:18 pm:

Yes he did. His mom still lives in the house. Probably saw you around there when I was younger and was walking the streets in Fulton.
