Even when times are tough, there are always things to be thankful for, if only for the beautiful sunrise like today's shot from Bill Haller. I like the way the sun is cutting through the haze hanging over the Portage Canal. It gives hope that a brighter day will dawn along with its golden rays. Let's take some time on this day of Thanksgiving and make a list of the things we have to be thankful for in our lives. It may just help to spark a ray of sunshine in your day.

Happy Thanksgiving!

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Thursday, November 27, 2008 - 10:20 pm:

Thanks for all of the encouragement sent our way today. I, too, am thankful for the staff who keeps this site going after 10-1/2 years without missing a day. Besides Mary Drew preparing the pictures and comments, Daryl Laitila helps with regular editing (such as the monthly contests and Golden Pasty Award), Deb Potter manages the business office (processing LOTS of pasty orders these days), the kitchen crew keeps those yummy pasties coming (Lisa Parisot, Nora Perala, Doug Kaufman, Shelly and Dave Potter), our technical crew keeps things humming on the Internet side (John Schneiderhan, Norm Parks, Mike Musiel, Todd Jutila, Aaron Pintor, and Tony Uselmann), daily proofreading is expertly handled by my wife Edie Hopper, and finally, the guy who keeps our servers running securely and connected to the rest of the world, my son (and the original Pasty Camist) Jonathan Hopper. Though John Bramble - the pasty folder on our home page - works full time at Michigan Tech food service these days, he still pitches in occasionally, as does Mike Patterson, also on the MTU staff.

Besides the crowd of people on this side of the screen who keeps Pasty Central on-track, there is an army of 400+ photographers who contribute so much, such as Bill Haller who provided today's sunrise, or Neil Harri, whose DVDs of aerial U.P. excursions are available with this year's holiday pasty orders. And I could list dozens of other regulars who come to mind, who make this site something I look forward to seeing every day.

To all who post messages with the pictures, we thank you. And to those who silently stop by just to catch a daily glimpse of life in the U.P., thank you for every click of the mouse, and for your support of our sponsors, without whom we wouldn't be here. Thanks a million to all.
