This Coast Guard boat, the Alder is on its fall mission of removing the buoys for the coming winter months. It makes the rounds and hoists them out of the water, so that the winter ice build-up doesn't destroy them. Then in the spring, it heads out again, this time setting the buoys back in place for the boaters to use as navigational points coming into and leaving the Keweenaw harbors. Robert C. Wetton spotted the Alder docked in Houghton this week. It looks like the Isle Royale Queen IV pulled up right behind her.

The second shot gives us a glimpse of the Alder "at work", as they get ready to remove the Eagle Harbor buoy for the winter season. This photo comes from Susan Harri, Neil's wife and it looks like she could give Neil a "run for his money" with her photography skills, too. :-> Neil and Susan have been busy putting together their fourth DVD called An Autumn Aerial Tour of Ontonagon and Gogebic Counties. And I must say the fall colors are spectacular on this DVD too.

P.S. If you'll be out there hunting on this opening day of firearm deer season, please be careful and good luck!

Look's like Susan and Neil know where to be at the right time , as alway's the pictures are great. Pray that all the hunters come home safe, and maybe with a deer. Oh yes "GOOD MORNING"

Inadvertently dialed my sister on opening day.
She answered in a muted voice (cell on vibrate).
Told her we will chat later after her stalk of the day.
Happy successful hunting to all!

Hunting deer with firearms walking and most of the time sitting still in the woods,is much safer then riding in a vehicle on any Interstate with other vehicles going 55 MPH or more only a few feet from you. These two weeks of the year I really miss being UP Michigan as much as the Fourth Of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve, Easter, Saint Patrick's Day, Valentines Day, Labor Day, or my birthday. Bring them back alive, not the deer.
