Not all the U.P. pumpkins in this picture taken by Mickey Hodges are orange. The cutest pumpkin is dressed in blue jeans and fleece, and has beautiful curly hair. Her name is Rhyan and she is Grandma Mickey's pride and joy! Rhyan was enjoying herself amongst Aunty Shirley and Uncle Joe's decorations for Halloween.

While her Granddaughter was busy with the colorful pumpkins, Mickey kept her camera busy with the leaves in their own backyard. She really captured some vibrant colors, which by now have most likely all fluttered to the ground. You know what that means right? It's time to get the rakes out and begin the job of clearing them out of the yard. Hopefully Rhyan will help Grandma and Grandpa rake them up!

What colors!!! You really don't see that kind of beauty around here. It's probably because it stays warmer a little longer, and by the time the leaves start to change color, they are ready to fall off.

Cute picture of Ryhan. I saw a picture of her cousin, Sebastian, picking out a pumpkin. It was a green one. We got a laugh out of that. He's so cute, as is Ryhan!

Why rake them? Just mow them over. It's supposed to be good for the grass, and you can throw them in your garden as mulch too. That's the lazy man's way, lol.

I think Rhyan has bewitched everyone, even the pumpkin cutouts look smitten. The colors in those leaves are amazing.

The Fall colors around where we live are not that good this year. None I want to take pictures of. We might go for another ride this weekend. I have to stop stalling and learn how to put my pictures on the computer.

Little Rhyan is cute as a little pumpkin.:O)

She is so cute sitting there. I bet she knows what she wants to be for Halloween.

Not lazy, sensible. What's silly is to rake, gather in plastic bags, dispose... then go to the garden centre to buy fertilizer in plastic bags to dump back on the grass!

Sometimes in this society, ya have to stop and ask yourself, "Does this really make sense?"

Terrific photos, by the way!

OMG,what beautiful pictures today....I was going to go for a walk on my favorite path here at Lake Erie park to take in the fall colors we now have but instead will use one of these as a wallpaper on my Puter...

Love those spectacular fall color shots of my favorite season in the U.P.! Feeling a bit deprived this time of year, even in "pleasant exile" on a beautiful island. Palm trees just don't do it in the fall.

Hi
My brother & I ran the mulching mowers at my mom's house last Saturday. However, addtional leaves have since fallen & it doesn't look like we did a thing.

Hi Everyone! Great pictures today!!! Snow is on the way...haha! Does anyone have an email for someone from the KeWEenaw CARE Corps group? If so, please email me at jktormala@hotmail.com! Thank you :)

I agree with you Becca. And every time I see my neighbors dumping fertilizer on the ground over the aquifer where our well water comes from I cringe. I used to rake the leaves, and when it got to the point where I couldn't do it anymore I hired the local kids. Now I just leave them. They decompose under the snow over the winter and the first cut of the spring disposes of them completely. And my lawn never looked better.

Those are awesome pictures, thank you, Mickey & Mary! I especially love the colors in the second picture, but they are all great!

Somehow, Yooperkate, we might have beaten you to the first snowfall this year? According to the National Weather Service, the Saginaw (MBS) airport had Light Snow, several hours overnight. Of course, it was too warm for the snow to stick. I about choked when I looked at the 6:53 am current conditions, and saw Light Snow! I was sure it just had to be a mistake, but, apparently it wasn't! That's just too early for snow, especially here in Trollville! And, they are predicting near Record Low temps for tonight. :-(

We've had snow off and on all day today.
Rhyan is so cute, and smart as can be. Can't wait for Thanksgiving. My grandson will be here so the two cousins can "play" as only two year olds do.

This morning was the first that would pass as cold. When we were getting in the car Taylor said "Look, Mom, Ice!" The first use of the scraper this morning.

By Mickey Hodges (Churchlady) on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 - 01:29 pm:

We had ice pellets yesterday afternoon in Lake Linden that lasted for a couple of minutes but nothing today. Not ready for snow yet; at least not until after Thanksgiving! I am humbled by all the comments about my pictures. Thank you!

They don't come any cuter!
