Last week's Roaming through Michigan video had plenty of feedback, mainly folks pointing out that it stopped too far to the east (Tehquamenon Falls) and they wanted more from the Western U.P. Ole from Ishpeming - though not as polished as the "TravelTalks" narrator - gives us a good overview of some of Keweenaw's high points.

Our thanks to John Anderson for taking time to arrange some old postcards of the U.P., which included today's shot from the top of Brockway, before the original gift shop was replaced by the present day structure.

Enjoy the rest of your long July 4th weekend, and have a good week :o)

Nice old picture of Brockway. Good Morning all!

Charlie, Thanks for putting this all together, very nice. I agree they did stop to far east. The Keweenaw is a magical frontier and getting there is half the fun. We'll be heading up in about a week! Thanks again to everyone who makes Pasty.com possible

God Bless

I enjoyed Ole's tour.
However the designation of "frontier county" is also alotted to Ontonagon county. Which, according to the 2006 census is right on the edge of the designation with 6 people/sq mile.

Tony,

Besides Ontonagon we also found one county in New York and one in Maine that have less than 6 people per square mile. A correction was added to the Cameo (you might need to 'reload' or 'refresh' it).

I finally had a chance to watch Ole. I really enjoyed it. Thank you!

As kids, we bought a souvenir here at the gift shop each time we
went up. Usually copper jewelry, a rabbit's foot, or a local mineral
sample. Or rock candy!

Cool. I love old pictures. I have an old picture of Brockway Mountain that I'll share here. I'm guessing it is around 1940. The people pictured are Einerd Ollenketo (married to John's daughter), John Juntunen (my great grandfather) and his daughter Wilma Juntunen:

Wilma died at age 14 in 1942 so that's how I'm dating this picture. (Hopefully this link works!)
