By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 07:36 am:

Good job on the "this day in history" cameos Charlie, but you left off one very important happening on this date. February 22, 1980 was the night of the "Miracle on Ice" up in Lake Placid, NY during the winter olympics, the night a rag-tag team of college students beat the "professional" USSR hockey team 4-3 to advance to the gold medal game. The game also had perhaps the single greatest call in all of sports history as well......

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 07:39 am:

Oh my goodness! I've got to call my parents and see what happened in Lake Linden. That's sad.

Good morning, by the way!

I love that strech of road in Eagle River, because I know that when I've reached it, I'm about to enjoy a fantastic drive along the shore.

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 08:16 am:

Capt Paul, I was in Montreal, Ca attempting to get tickets to the olympics that day. My son was playing hockey for USC at that time.(yes in LA on a club basis)Was on my bi-annual Greyhound trip lnto Canada as I was laid off at the time...That was really one day to be proud to be from the good old USA.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 09:35 am:

A very happy birthday to you David! So you are a year older than me. But that means a year wiser, right?

By Martha Kirk (Misschiefie) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 09:59 am:

Eddyfitz, I was in Montreal that weekend too, on a trip with the Red Wings For'em Club to see the Wings play the Canadians. The thing I remember is being amazed to see the score of the US-USSR game being flashed at the bottom of Metro Airport's arrival and departure monitors. I'm sure they've never done anything like that before or since! We were on our flight home on Sunday during the gold medal game. The pilot of our charter flight knew we were hockey fans so he told us on takeoff that he would be monitoring the broadcast of the game and would let us know what was happening. He was obviously not a hockey fan, because at one point he told us the US had just scored a "shortsighted" goal. We cheered anyway.

Happy birthday David, time to visit the local still and get some of that dew like what is around your head in your bio.

Barb, wasn't it weird going past that corner with it dark and no one there?

By Crystal Brabbs (Moosesarecool) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 10:35 pm:

YAWN! cant sleep today. BLAH! dont feel good. BUT,i cant complain. But, i feel totally bad for that owner of that gas sttion.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Saturday, February 23, 2008 - 05:02 am:

Can't sleep either would love to go into my lathe room and make something but Precious frowns on my making a lot of noise when she is in bed trying to sleep. The moon is bright tonight and Jimmie the fat white cat is going from register to register trying to keep warm. My granddaughter Andrea the Irish dancer was going to the ski hill and told me the ticket was forty dollars, wow we used to ski behind Hubbell for free. Sticker shock for me. Too bad about the fire in Lake Linden, hopefully they will be able to rebuild. Saw some pictures of it and looked like several other fire departments were there also. The Lake Linden fire department is across the street isn't it? Been cold here in Berkley, but the sun has been out. Love to be out in the snow when the sun is out everything is so nice looking. I used to tell my kids that the ice that the Zamboni would pick up was made into snow cones and they sold them at the consession stand. When they asked for one the girl just looked at them and told them they were out. I guess I will try to sleep again.
