Lot's of memorable scenes on today's review of this date on the Pasty Cam. That scene from Ontonagon looks so much like Cliff Drive.

In case you hadn't noticed, we now have an audio-only version of This Day in History.

Good Morning from Marquette.
First Post
Wow, this must be Marquette day! The main picture of the lighthouse is from Marquette, the Upper Peninsula Children's Museum of Marquette is quoted on "This Day in History", and finally a Marquette boy bags the beloved bird!

Good Morning, Everyone! I agree: the lunar eclipse was awesome, on a nice, clear night!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 07:51 am:

Good morning everybody! When I drove into town for bowling last night, the moon was so bright you could hardly look at it. When I came home, it wasn't there.

Great slideshow. Nature, the simpler the better.

By Matt Karhu (Matt_k) on Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 07:59 am:

Deb, did you bowl all night? Is there more to this that you are holding back until we ask for the "rest of the story"? (LOL)

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 09:00 am:

I had every intention of watching for eclipse the moon was so nice and full, and I fell asleep! I pouted all the way to work this morning.

Chassell Community Center...
wow, that brings back so many memories, I can't remember them all :)

That used to be the gym where all the basketball games were played. Some great ones on that very small floor...what history.
I remember there was seating along on side..a single row of chairs...a stage on one end that had bleachers..maybe 5 or 6 rows..a balconey on the other end where the visitors sat...couldn't see much from there. On the other side was the scoring bench and the teams. Can;t remember the exact dimensions of the floor..but it wasn't much more than 80 feet or so...way smaller than regulation.

Downstairs was a bowling alley...can't remember , but i think 2 lanes? Manual pin setter. You had to put the pins in the holders and push this big arm down to lower the pins to the alley. Then get out of the way quick so you wouldn't get hit by a flying pin...

There used to be a pool table for awhile along with a juke box too. Also a snack bar and a soda machine with those BIG 10 oz bottles.

For basketball games, we used to change in the kitchen...there was only one actual locker room that the visitors used. We were so nice ot them :)

The teenagers used to dance down there during the 50s and early 60s. Most of the town doings were held there. It used to seem so big when I was a little guy....

memories

by the way...to the left of the community center...that used to be my dad's gas station/garage, until he bought the Shell station across the street...now home to Grandma's Antiques, my Aunt Irma.

Can't remember the exact year, but the gas station had a huge fire...there was a gas delivery truck pumping gas into the holding tank..it overflowed and ran down into the basement through a window...then over to the furnace..the whole thing blew up..the truck caught fire. My dad jumped into it and drove it across the street down the road..there was fire on the end of the hose as it dragged...plus the entire truck blew up into a big ball of fire...right after my dad got out...we saw it all..it was during school lunch hour on our way back from lunch....what a bad day that was.

David SOUMIS;
Did you need to get past the fre throw line to get credit for getting over center line in the 10 second limit?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 07:01 pm:

LOL, no I didn't bowl all night. But for some reason, I couldn't see the darn moon while driving home. I looked for it, but just didn't see it. I think it was because it was so much darker than when I went in. Once I got home I could see it out of the window though. I'm not much for looking at stuff while I'm driving. Must be very careful you know.

David Soumis, do you know Swamprat?

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 11:11 pm:

If I remember right, we used to lose the ball just past the top of the key all the time, so didn't need to worry about that 10 second call.
It was tight full court press all the time :)

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Thursday, February 21, 2008 - 11:12 pm:

swamprat...no, I don't think I've heard that name...what's the real name ?
