By the looks of the spray in the air, this wave watcher is probably getting a little shower while sitting on the end of that log. It does look like the perfect viewing bench though, despite the mist. Dave Dalquist has done an excellent job capturing the fury of Lake Superior as the wind whips it toward shore. You can almost hear the roar and feel the chill in the air, like you're right there at the Houghton Breakers yourself.

Good Morning:
This is a cool Picture. I don't think you would want to try sitting there this time of the year.

Hope it's warmer there than here. I would think the spray from the waves is a bit chilling

Happy Thanksgiving to one all! Like many of you I also wish I was back in Iron River for turkey day. Driving up from Chicago was always long but special. I was amazed to see lights on late at night in kitchens, probably Mom or Grandma cooking something for that special day. I'll always remember my bother in law and I having a shot and a beer at the Riverside Pizza in Iron River while we were waiting for our pizzas. The bartender was SO excited, she was getting up early Friday to drive to Appleton to shop. We thought she was nuts but people do that up there!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all:) Eat some UP turkey for me!

Happy Turkey day to all.

What a GREAT picture. Just sitting and watching Lake Superior is the greatest stress reliever in the world. In fact, i'll be doing just that in about 5 hours.

Riverside Pizza? That's where I acquired my love of pizza back when Nello perfected his recipe. Still the best I've ever eaten!

The photo was taken at the North Entry Stanton Township Park.

Pizza? Did someone say pizza? I want a pizza right now. I guess that will be dinner tonight.

By Mike (Upboundeh) on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 - 04:25 pm:

Jeff said it...watching Lake Superior is just relaxing and the best thing is there are no commercials! I'll get on the band wagon too...were ordering pizza right now.
Happy Turkey Day to All :)

This looks like the beach that is now private around the Freda area. Beautiful, but very cold, I'm sure.

Happy Turkey Day all!

The photo was taken maybe a hundred feet south of the Houghton breakwall, but it's actually from April of '79. With the way those stamp sands shift, it looks entirely different now.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Peace.

That is an incredible photo!
I can imagine sitting there feeling the wind and spray and hearing the waves crashing on the shore.

By Jeffrey P. Carlson (Dlineman) on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 07:36 pm:

To Hekkia, We always go to the Riverside whenever we are in Iron River. It's the only place that cuts the pizza in squares. Don't ask them to do it any other way. We have some great deep dish pizza joints here in Chicago (Lou Malnotes just to name one). But the Riverside is special. GO PACKERS!!!
