I should thank my youngest son's band party for keeping me up until all hours, making sure he got home ok, etc, etc. LOL 0ur high school won their home game, 48-0. It sounds like Flint Northern must have left their defense team at home?

Good Morning everyone! 53 degrees and windy here in Houghton. The rain has finally stopped.
Dog-sitting the granddogs this weekend. 2 yr old black lab and 1 yr old chocolate lab. We had 3 dogs of our own also.

By John W (Jwahtola) on Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 10:18 am:

I am glad to hear that some one else sits the granddogs. We dog-sat the granddog when the Grandson was born. Now we sit both a few days a week.

They say the temp is 79. My mercury is reading 94.Either way it is a very nice day here in K-Town.Summer is hanging on. Good afternoon!

By Susan Caryl (Gilbsulmum) on Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 12:36 pm:

Good afternoon, everyone....is there an "early afternoon sticker? :) I have been cleaning and clearing out and have a few things I'm hoping someone will be interested it. Am trying (with difficulty, as I am a packrat) to make room and be a bit more sensible. If anyone wants any of this please email me at susancaryl@verizon.net and I will be happy to send it along.

14 attached postcards published for Jan's House of Gifts in 1958, mostly locks but also surrounding area and one shot of upper Tahquamenon.

18 attached photos (too light weight to be used individually - but the whole thing could be mailed back then for 1 1/2 cent postage...without message!) of Mackinac Island. It includes a chronological timetable 1626 through 1915.

Single postcard of Sault Ste. Marie - 100 years ago. Pictures a diorama located at Welch's Dock, East Portage St. Background shows the old Mackinac trail leading south out of village.

Single postcard of the Vacationland back when it was the newest ferry.

(None of these postcards etc have been postally used)

A booklet published by Michigan History Division or Michigan's historic attractions. 31 pages include 62 points of interest in the UP - first 9 pages. The rest is troll land...but all interesting. Goes pretty much county by county.
Copyright 1973.

8 1/2 x 11 map of the locks by the war department
corps of engineers / united states army. The other side of the paper includes the history of St. Marys Falls Canal from 1797 through 1943.

I'll keep these around for a few days yet. Hope someone or someones want them. First come, first serve. Then off they go to the church for the rummage sale. You guys get first choice. :)

Does anyone know who won the football game last night between the Hancock Bulldogs and Calumet Copper Kings? I was at the game for the first half and then got drenched and went home.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, September 22, 2007 - 03:12 pm:

Charlie: thank you for posting the link for Huskies football last week. I was hunting for it on MTU's web site, & it tells us that it is broadcast on FM 93, but there is no link. I went back to find your link from last week. And, now, I'm listening to fabulous Turnover City Football! LOL Sorry, I think it is funny that both sides keep turning over the ball. I will always cheer for the Huskies first. Grand Valley is #1 in the nation, but they are turning it over just as much as the Huskies are. They are just able to connect more on their plays than the Huskies are, in part because of their bigger size, or so it sounds.

The Houghton kid, Tyler Cattelino, seems to be a great player. He even tackled the kickoff returner, after he kicked the ball down to the 10-yard line for the opening kickoff of the second half. Now, if the Huskies offense can just penetrate Grand Valley's defense...

Oh my gosh, the temp is 82 at this very moment.I hand washed the car just befor dark and got sweaty.

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Sunday, September 23, 2007 - 12:16 am:

David H.: It's been in the 70s to mid 80s here in St. Clair county MI the past few days! However it's been that nice up north air from the NW, low humidity, no pollution, and cool at night, 50s to lower 60s. Perfect! (We still need rain though!)

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Sunday, September 23, 2007 - 12:30 pm:

That is the kind of weather that i like. It only got down to 74 here last night. So far it was cool enough to have a fire in the pit one day last week.Do you know the amount of rainfall you are behind on? We are behind by about 12 inches here.Grass still growing each week and green.
