What a timely photo sent in by Ashlee Harvey, with the red, white and blue of our country's flag waving proudly to celebrate Independence Day here at Pasty Central. Ashlee also sent in some colorful close-ups of her flower garden and I took the liberty to "stretch" the colors a bit, fitting them in with our 4th of July theme. No matter what your plans are for this patriotic holiday, be sure to celebrate safely and of course, take the time to smell the flowers along the way!

Happy 4th of July!!

What a wonderful first glimpse of the UP on this Patriotic day. The smell of petunia's always brings me back to the Soo Locks where they always grow their own from seed to plant on the pathways thru the park. Beautiful varieties, especially the white ones with the slightly blue throat.

Looks like the weather will be just perfect for the parade and activities in Lake Linden. Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th. I'll be there in spirit!

Hiding out at the Laurium Manor and ate a pasty at the Hut yesterday with the wife. Now that was one excellent pasty. Met Charlie and got a minute to chat. Neil Harri, your sky photographer, meant me at the airport and got a few minutes to chat with him too. What a great day in da K. Off to the Gay parade...sorry I meant the parade at Gay, and the beach at Lac la Belle for even more Americana. Just wished it all lasted a little longer..........

Oh what a beautiful day ....... and we are a free nation.....how blessed we are. I looooovvvvve this weather. Didn't see any parades today....slept in, can you beleive it....I felt like sticking my head in the turlet and flusing it myself!!! I can't believe I slept in....guess I needed it....sigh.

You all have a wonderful safe day...enjoy the simple things.

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Wednesday, July 4, 2007 - 05:05 pm:

this is weird..but one of the things i remember the most about the 4th, other than the parade in South Range and the fireworks, was that the firemen in Chassell used to give away those little Dixie-cup ice creams to the kids in front of the old firehall. That was just the coolest thing...had that wooden spoon..and they had chocolate revel or vanilla.
Such small things...such big memories

Hope you enjoy some photos of my first parade in beautiful downtown Gay. Lots of people were out in full force in Gay, Lake Linden and Mohawk today as we drove through the area.

Ahhh, the agony of not being in the Keweenaw for the 4th of July. Thanks for the photos of the Gay parade.. my family home is just down the street, and I know that ALL my family was there.
I'll just have to drown my sorrows at the Gay Bar when I'm there in a few weeks....

So, Bonnie Hartman, were you formerly known as Bonnie Erkkila???????

Thank-you, thank-you, for the Parade in Gay pics.! Could not be there this year at the house. Always a thrill to see all the people in town that day. Most of the time the mosquitos out number the people 10 to 1! We will be up there in Aug. and perhaps the 4th next year.
