Good Morning!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 08:03 am:

Good Morning everyone. Last nights rain turned to snow, it is that heavy kind that sticks to everything. I am going to have to take my camera outside.

Top of the world to ya....

Well, we survived our latest round of storms yesterday and now the weatherlady says we're in the clear for a few days. Just in time for the weekend too; the Dr. and I are going to Cabela's in Austin Saturday to begin stocking up on supplies we'll need for our geologic adventure this summer ;-)

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 08:31 am:

OK, I'll bite: What IS your geologic adventure?

By Janet Boatman (Janetnwohio) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 10:09 am:

We live in Ohio and all our family drove to Michigan to go to the Cabela's and that is such a great place to spend a whole afternoon there are so many things to see and buy and buy because you know someday we are going to need this.

By John W (Jwahtola) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 10:09 am:

Capt.Paul, is your Cabela's having their Spring Sale? The Cabela's here in Dundee Michigan is having a big Spring Sale for all the spring and summer fun things to do. Have Fun getting all the stuff you and the Dr. need. Where are you going for your geologic adventure?

If you want a chuckle, I found the following statement in NOAA's Flood Warning statement for our town:
"Safety Message...if flooding is observed... turn around don't drown."

Really? I know, most people would consider that just common sense.

NOAA's comment strikes me as being very funny. :-)

By FJL (Langoman) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 01:28 pm:

Yes,,,,, but there are those who will say, "I can make it"!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 04:07 pm:

Sorry for keeping everyone in suspense, I've been out on special assignment all day.

The Dr. and I are coming to the Keweenaw first for a few days then neither of us have been on the Lake Superior circle tour, so I think we're going to attempt that trip this year. I know we've already got so many people that want to know when we are going to be in the Keweenaw so they can learn about the geology it's crazy; we may have to spend the entire time there just to accomodate everyone ;-)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 04:14 pm:

Capt. Paul,
Can you extend the vacation and call it a research and fact finding field trip?
Mr. Deb

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 05:42 pm:

its a scary feeling getting caught in a flood. I was driving in Puerto Rico, where they have these quick heavy monsoon rains...we were in a valley.
Up ahead the water was rushing across the road ...probably 50-100 feet across. A few little Toyotas and Hondas waded right through...my BIG Mercury Cougar got right in the middle and stalled. The water was hitting the side windows..we were waiting to get washed away, but luckily, we didn't.... it was close.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 05:46 pm:

Capt. Paul, your Lake Superior Circle Tour will be one, if not the best, vacation! Hubby and I have done most of it except the area between Thunder Bay, Ontario and White River, Ontario. Have Fun!!

By Danbury (Danbury) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 06:01 pm:

Seems like you were lucky and got out alright, Davesou - congratulations. Seems bigger wasn't better. Out of curiosity, when you say "BIG Cougar" - old one?

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 06:11 pm:

it was an old one 1976...the one not quite as big as a boat :)

By Laurie B. (Ratherberiding) on Thursday, March 15, 2007 - 06:37 pm:

We've done the Lake Superior Circle Tour twice on a motorcycle. It's a great trip. Be sure to go to Old Fort William by Thunder Bay. Kakabeka Falls is neat and Ouimet Canyon is a must see! We stayed at an Inn in Red Rock where you'd swear Bob Newhart was going to walk down the stairs. We've also done the Lake Huron Circle on a motorcycle. I wouldn't do that one again. You hardly ever see the lake.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Friday, March 16, 2007 - 04:28 am:

Sorry, me again - ah, Laurie? What bike(s)? Riding a TDM myself, I'm curious to that as well ...

By Laurie B. (Ratherberiding) on Friday, March 16, 2007 - 08:27 am:

Danbury,
We have a 2001 Honda Goldwing, yellow!! Can't believe this will be our 7th summer with it. The first time around Lake Superior was on an '86 Wing.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Friday, March 16, 2007 - 12:30 pm:

Thnx for satisfying my curiosity, Laurie.
Why not seven years on the bike? If not for a broken timing chain and a drunk, drugged and tired kid in a car, I'd still be on the same bike after nine years, instead the third.
Time sure is passing, though. Especially when riding.
