By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 10:12 am:

Thank You, Deb S., you have a wonderful day also!

By Therese (Therese) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 10:59 am:

Is that a house under all that snow? I think I can make out a bit of siding and maybe someone waving a distress red hankie signal...

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 11:32 am:

Good morning from Mishawaka,IN where it finally looks like winter. The wind chill is -2 so it also feels like winter. The snow dance finally worked.

By Vicky P (Vickyp) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 12:07 pm:

Therese, you're right - it does look like it could be a house. I see what could possibly be that red hankie :)

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 12:14 pm:

It kinda looks like a mailbox to me.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 12:46 pm:

I think Grace nailed it:

Mailbox in snowdrift

By Therese (Therese) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 12:57 pm:

Ah yes, once I knew what it is it was obvious. Am glad to know there wasn't someone stuck in an igloo 8 years ago. --- By the way, congrats to the Emmet County road crews: my mailbox hasn't been taken out once this year. One year I was so tired of nailing it back onto the post that I hung a US flag from it. It didn't get knocked down again, but they also avoided it by 5 feet which left a lot of shoveling for me. All kidding aside, you people who keep our roads clear in the winter are great!

By Charles In Esky (Charlesinesky) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 01:09 pm:

Boy, my wife and I are just back from a short, cold walk along
the bay here in Escanana, and did we see an odd sight. We were
expecting to see how far out in the bay the fish shanties have
gone now that the the bay is frozen, and suddenly we heard a
big horn, and there was an oreboat heading south right along
the shore. This is Jan 28, and we still have ore boats? Who
would have thunk it! How would you like to be on an ore boat
this time of year? Yikes!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 01:52 pm:

Ohmygosh,Knock me over with a feather! All it proves is Grace is the winner today, and Deb got some laundry done.Save some snow clean up for Rob,Grace. When I get up that way I will take the time to get out to Bootjack and hope to see you all at the same time, like I did in 2004.Nine above in Houghton, feels like -2 says Charlotte in IN. It has been snowing here today lite flakes, not like the BB size afew days ago, these are fluries going in all directions, looks like white fly's.I bet it's nice and warm in the mail box.Going to be busy this week looking at Homes to put on the property. The picture I will have up soon is the John Oliver Cabin in Cades Cove,TN.
Have a great day U all.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 02:30 pm:

Thanks, Dave. That cabin is a beauty. Haven't been there for over
a decade but may have the chance if I head down to visit a friend of
mine who teaches at Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro. (I know it's
not a direct route, but I like detours.)

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 02:51 pm:

Kosk in Toronto;Come on down.Anybody..I have a Time Share Resort in Gatlinburg,TN.as my home base.Looking for a trade share,or to purchase one, contac me.

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 04:43 pm:

Dave, no snow here just real cold. Remember how big the snow banks were when we were kids! They were huge. Walking down our road(main street) I'd say the banks were at least 8-10 ft tall. I remember sometimes when the sno go would come by all could do was hear it and see the snow shooting into our field.Fran

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 08:37 pm:

Yeah Fran I remember that well too!
One had to stick the front of your car out in the intersection to see if another was coming!

Another few inches came down here today in trolland! My little old "Dude" lawn tractor with plow blade is getting a workout! (Dave H has seen it!)

And yeah, hats off to our St. Clair county road guys for a good job!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 - 09:07 pm:

You don't have snow yet Fran?It must be heading you way then.We got it here sticking some.I stayed in all day, just colder then I care to be out in.I have pictures of snowbanks at least 8 ft.high with me standing in front about 3 ft.tall back then.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, January 29, 2007 - 09:23 am:

We were at the end of the (East Branch) road and the snow plow and school bus had to turn around in our yard so the road commission would take their big sno-blower thingee to the banks in our yard and on our road and the result would be 10 foot walls of snow. It would be cool to dig tunnels in them.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, January 29, 2007 - 08:25 pm:

Thanks, Dave. I'll keep that in mind.
