It looks like Greta Jones has found a unique way to try and get the snow-guns here in the Upper Peninsula working, by putting out a sign showing that the white stuff is welcome here! I've often seen signs put up during the winter that say, "No snow here", meaning the resident doesn't want the street cleaning snow blowers to throw snow in the area, but I guess advertising for snow with a sign like Greta's can't hurt the process. Maybe we need to hang a few more of these signs throughout the UP, to keep that snow coming!

What a neat sign!

The shortage of snow in CC may be due to somebody other than our Hispanic friend El Nino. Does anybody know the whereabouts of Heikki Lunta? Is he still with us, and if so, can he still dance?

Cute sign!

By Brad Codere (Bcodere) on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 08:06 am:

The snow on top of the sign is somewhat in the shape of the UP, just a little elongated is all. Maybe it's a sign! Well, of course it's a sign but, oh heck, you get the point. :)

You're very observant, Brad!

I hope the sign is a sign too! Yep, good eye, Brad! It sure is a cute sign!

I heard that Heikki Lunta was last seen partying on the beach in Cabo. He should return to the north soon...

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 11:19 am:

He won't come back, now he is going to have to vacation someplace else. And if he dose come to the U.P. he's a gonna want much much more then the 2 dollars he got last time to make it snow!Them snowball full of rocks realy hurt,he has no medical insurance, and is still in recovery from back in the 70's.
The other snow on the sign right of the U.P. looks like FL.

Heikki is in Denver!

By Heikki (Heikki) on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 02:46 pm:

Heikki Lunta partying in Cabo, huh? Well dat &*%# so and so! Gets a little money in his pocket and the first thing you know he's gallivanting all over North America. Well, he must have stopped in Denver alright, and danced the night away. He also stopped in Albuquerque, NM, on his way to Cabo, because my friend there was 'blessed' with 18" of the white stuff about a week ago. I emailed him a photo of my snowless front yard here in Door County, WI, and asked if he needed a Yooper Scooper. He didn't know what I was talking about. Can you imagine that!

By Gonna be a Yooper (Joanie) on Thursday, January 11, 2007 - 03:33 pm:

Rowdy, it is Frosty's cousin. The carrot doesn't fall too far from - - - - -

Thx for the link, Inwis. I'll never forget where I first heard that zany tune. I was a Yooper transplant in the Chicago metro area. Had to commute 55 miles each way through the heart of Chicago for about a year. Driving home from work late one winter night(1971?) on the Dan Ryan Expressway, the lyrics "....make da snow come down...." (with obvious Yooper accent) came pouring over the airwaves. I chuckled to myself as the song continued. When finished, the DJ gave a good bellylaugh and gave details of the song's origin. It was a cold, damp Chicago night, and this boy from the Great Northwoods didn't particularly want to be there, but hearing Yooperese coming from WLS warmed my heart.

Wow! That snow is beautiful! So white and fluffy...that could only be U.P. snow.
