Eight years ago, Mike Lothamer (left) and Eric Bastian show off for their favorite food. That's the Keweenaw County courthouse in the background (in Eagle River).

Tom, that has to be the ultimate in ice fishing comfort!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, September 2, 2006 - 11:56 am:

Tom,
Wow, an ice shanty that you can drive, eh ;) I was watching the Travel Channel awhile back and they had a show on fancy ice shanties...that had all the comforts of a small home...some of them looked like travel trailers on the inside with sleeping areas...and there were a few that had an upper sleeping berth area. Guess the ice shanty has really revolved, eh ;) Now it is more like camping on da ice ;)

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Saturday, September 2, 2006 - 12:37 pm:

Those two guys have the art of UP right at hand. Tom: you mean a lake actually freezes over to hold one of those ice shanty's up? What has become of the climate? (Tee Hee, just kidding)

Japei, you've done it again! What a FANTASTIC site. I will be

Trivia:
You remember the show Bonanza and the music? See the lyrics below.

Theme Song Lyrics
Title: "Bonanza"
By: "Ray Evans & Jay Livingston"

We got a right to pick a little fight ... Bonanza!
If anyone fights anyone of us, he's gotta fight with me!

We're not a one to saddle up and run ... Bonanza!
Anyone of us who starts a little fuss, knows he can count on me!

One for four
Four for one,
This we guarantee.

We got a right to pick a little fight ... Bonanza!
If anyone fights anyone of us, he's gotta fight with me!

There was some discussion of the B-17 Bomber crash in the Porcupine Mountains on 4/19/1944 in the Pasty Cam notes for May 17-06.

Just today I stumbled upon this news of recent developments in the Kinross UFO Incident.

This involved an F-89 Scorpion fighter jet that went missing on a misson from Kinross AFB on November 23, 1953 while being tracked by the Calumet Air Force Station radar base.

Wreckage of a F-89 and an unknown object were apparently discovered in 2005 at the bottom of Lake Superior. The objects were located at a depth of at least 250 feet in Canadian waters off the tip of the Keweenaw.

Ooops, that above post included a bad link... let me try that again. (I hate when that happens!)

Hey Bev... I thought it went like this...though I'm not sure how it applies...

We chased lady luck till we finally struck - Bonanza
With a gun and a rope and a hatful of hope
We planted our family tree
We got ahold of a potful of gold - Bonanza
With a horse and a saddle and a rig full of cattle
How rich can a fella be?
On this land we put our brand
Cartwright is the name
Fortune smiled the day we filed
The Ponderosa claim

Here in the west we're livin' in the best - Bonanza
If anyone fights any one of us
He's gonna fight with me

Hoss and Joe and Adam know
Every rock and pine
No one works, fights, or eats
Like those boys of mine

Here we stand in the middle of a grand - Bonanza
With a gun and a rope and a hatful of hope
We planted our family tree
We got ahold of a potful of gold - Bonanza
With a houseful of friends where the rainbow ends
How rich can a fella be?

On this land we put our brand
Cartwright is the name
Fortune smiled the day we filed
The Ponderosa claim

Here in the west we're livin' in the best - Bonanza
With the friendliest, fightenist, lovingest band
That ever set foot in the promised land
And we're happier than them all
That's why we call it - Bonanza -
- Bonanza -
- Bonanza -

Oh, I see, it's the one they didn't use.

The Ill-Fated Bonanza Lyrics For The Pilot

(Little Joe solo) I've got a flair for women everywhere---Bonanza!
(Hoss solo) Bonanza! (Barks and howls)
(All three) I'm not afraid of any pretty maid--Bonanza! Bonanza!
But when I give a kiss to any little miss, She'll learn a lot from me

(Ben solo) I'm not afraid of any pretty maid--Bonanza!
(All three) Bonanza!
When I give a kiss to any little miss
She'll learn a lot from me
Hair of brown, hair of gold
I'll take what I see

We're not a one to saddle up and run--Bonanza! Bonanza!
Anyone of us who starts a little fuss
Knows he can count on me
One for four, four for all
This we guarantee

We got a right to pick a little fight--Bonanza! Bonanza!
If anyone fights any one of us
He's gotta fight with me!

But I still don't see how it applies.

I visited the spot where they filmed Bonanza a few years back and it's very interesting. Saw the Ponderosa, the church, the saloon, etc. They have dummies dressed up like the Cartwrights (was that their name?) and we even saw the little Chinese guy who used to serve them dinner. It was all a lot of fun to see. I took a lot of pictures. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't know how you remember all those words though.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Saturday, September 2, 2006 - 06:37 pm:

Wow, take me back a few years. I almost remember the tune, let alone the lyrics. Now you know those boys lovin' pastys are only going to see Bonanza on Nick at Nite. I suppose though with a pasty or two in hand you could tolerate an episode if you were that young.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, September 2, 2006 - 09:39 pm:

I almost forgot. I got my first driver's license at that courthouse. Brings back memories.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Saturday, September 2, 2006 - 10:50 pm:

I meant to ask if someone has kept up with those two young men. Gotta know if they were Techy's or if they moved away. Probably have wives and families by now.
