Eight years ago, this was Suomi College's Finnish American Heritage Center, a renovation of an old church on the main street in Hancock. Now known as Finlandia University, the school continues its traditional association with all things Finnish. That's the Hancock Middle School in the background.

Good afternoon. I know, it lacks imagination, but well, it's too hot to think ...

And one more: reading through the page of the blueberryfarm (from the link the other day), I've got a question, please: what is slush?

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Saturday, July 22, 2006 - 08:16 am:

Good afternoon Danbury. Slush is a treat made by mixing ice, flavoring, and fruit in a blender so it is a liquid, almost frozen, mixture. It's named after real slush: what you get when it snows but is warm and the fallen snow melts till gray, icy cold, but not totally melted.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Saturday, July 22, 2006 - 05:13 pm:

hi maija, thanks for the explanation - I felt like slush was something I'd find myself driving through occasionally, but was quite certain it was something no one would ever serve as a snack. sounds terrific in weather like that. US or Europe - it's hot, hot, hot! Actually, it's so hot here that some highways are blocked because the surface doesn't hold up anymore, and a railroad in the black forest had to cease it's operations temporarily because the rails got bend in the sun.

Wine will most likely be sweet, though ...

Hello danbury, "We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave, isn't it surprising the temperature is rising....." It's 106º and with the humidity factor built in it's more like 106º. At least you can go to the Alps and cool off. A sip of wine on a hot day would make me glow all over. No thanks. :)

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Saturday, July 22, 2006 - 08:00 pm:

I meant to say more like 116º
