Eight years ago, visitors attended an open house at the newly restored and recommissioned Mendota Lighthouse. Here, a lighthouse window pane is removed to install a new Fresnel lens. You can also see a full view of the lighthouse. The Mendota Lighthouse is on the east side of the Keweenaw near the Bete Gris beach.

Morning!

The newly established Bete Grise Preserve, affords an easy beach walk from the southern side, up to the lighthouse. Enter and park at the sign off the Gay / Lac La Belle road.

Groannnnnnnn this is one place I missed last weekend among many. Thank God for forward thinking people that worked to save this beautiful piece of heavenly real estate!

By paul (Pungvait) on Thursday, July 6, 2006 - 11:11 am:

whoever made the sign should have to do it over, spelling shoreline properly, and omitting the extra apostrophe.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, July 6, 2006 - 02:18 pm:

Lol, you would have thought someone would catch that before all the world noticed......

It was probably one of my students who wrote that. You'd be amazed by the things they write.

By Erica - Florida Keys (Erica) on Thursday, July 6, 2006 - 07:35 pm:

Paul, you're right on the money about the spelling of shoreline but I don't find the extra apostrophe. I think I spot an extra comma after ( or before) 7500.Can you point out the extra apostrophe?

By Erica - Florida Keys (Erica) on Thursday, July 6, 2006 - 07:39 pm:

Paul,I took a second look and I found it...should be its natural state, right?

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, July 6, 2006 - 07:41 pm:

Are you sure you are seeing extra comma's or apostrophe's? I see the bolts that are holding the sign in place.

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Thursday, July 6, 2006 - 07:58 pm:

I bet whoever made up that sign did it on purpose. When ever I write something to/for a group I like to say that if there are any mistakes in the piece it was done for those people who enjoy finding other people's mistakes. Makes them happy, I guess:o>

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Thursday, July 6, 2006 - 07:59 pm:

Nothing personal, Paul.

By Margo (Margo) on Friday, July 7, 2006 - 06:43 am:

I think your right Katie, I see four bolts along the botton, three bolts along each side and I'll bet the ones across the area about 1/3rd of the way down could look like apostrophe's. They are bolts. There are also bolts about 2/3 of the way down on each side.

By paul (Pungvait) on Friday, July 7, 2006 - 06:49 am:

look at the pattern of the bolts and you'll see that the apostrophe is not aligned with them.
