I recall, as a young girl visiting my aunt downstate, waiting for the ice cream truck to drive by her house ringing the bell, signaling it was time to enjoy a cool treat. Much to my surprise I spotted a Yooper version of this summer coolant not too long ago. So I was excited to find a shot of "Laura's Ice Cream Bus" in Joyce Tormala's album. You can almost feel the anticipation of the young customers as they decide what refreshingly cool treat to enjoy. Then the sheer joy of the young girl captured in midair, as she flies home with her purchase. Joyce's Guest Gallery holds another great way to cool off in the summer heat and needs no more explanation than the title given the photo above: Superior Splash! :->

Just a couple more days and I will be Superior splashing!!!!!!!!!

By happyooper (Trigal) on Thursday, July 27, 2006 - 09:09 am:

Ooooh, does the ice cream truck play music too??
Ahhh...the refreshing Superior is at its ultimate degree!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, July 27, 2006 - 09:26 am:

We have an ice cream truck here that plays a demented version of "The Entertainer" as it passes the house. I'm sure the adults laugh about it, but it does draw in the kiddies when it comes around......

Can you bottle up some of the SUPERIOR SPLASH and send it to Kansas City where it's going to be over 100 for the next week. It would be great for the body and soul ....

Superior Splash....nice picture. Looks like a mermaid enjoying the scene!

By Julia (Julia) on Thursday, July 27, 2006 - 10:14 am:

Yes, the ice cream truck or(bus) plays music, loud enough that you can hear it coming down your block:)

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz) on Thursday, July 27, 2006 - 10:35 am:

In the late 40's there was a young couple in Hubbell that had converted a school bus into a restraunt and would bring it down town and plug it into the Maki Shoe Repair (220V) to run their operation from 7 till around 10 evenings only. In those days my sisters/in-laws owned THE COPPER COUNTRY POTATOE CHIPS CO. and they were delivered and sold throughout the KEWEENAW area.

By Therese (Therese) on Thursday, July 27, 2006 - 11:59 am:

Years ago when I lived in the Detroit area, I spent a long Memorial Weekend painting the street face of my house, stroke by stroke. Every day the Good Humor Man would come by and wait for me to run inside for change. (And yes, he also played The Entertainer.) It made a welcome break in the day. Now I pay someone to put another coat on, and drive into town to Yummies in Harbor Springs for a treat. Something was lost in the translation from do-it-yourself to can-afford-not-to, but the ice cream tastes just as good.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Thursday, July 27, 2006 - 12:20 pm:

When I was visiting my hometown in Troll land My first Airedale was introduced to the ice cream truck. From that day forward whenever Katie heard the music of an ice cream truck we would have to stop for a treat.

Nothing beats the heat better than a dip in Lake Superior!

By Greta Armata (Gretania) on Thursday, July 27, 2006 - 07:03 pm:

Boy, would a dip in the Great Healer feel good about now. I just love to float on my back and let the water relax me.

By LuAnn Padgett (T5834lp) on Friday, July 28, 2006 - 12:25 pm:

To Capt. Paul, that "demented version of "The Entertainer" sure does make the rounds, doesn't it? We have the same in our neighborhood in Sterling Heights. You made me laugh with your comment, thanks! LuAnn

I just returned to Te x as after spending July in the Copper Country, mainly in Lac La Belle. What I wouldn't give for a Superior splash right about now.
