Some year-round residents of Bete Grise have four walls they call home. Others just claim the entire area as their residence. Bill Haller (or perhaps Eloise) photographed one of those lucky creatures in the early morning light. I'm speculating that he was headed to the lake for a drink and decided to enjoy the sunrise at the same time. A lot of folks need a cup of tea or coffee to kick start the day, this deer seems to prefer a drink of Lake Superior water to start off the morning. No matter how you "drink it in", that Big Lake is mesmerizing to man and beast.

What a sight to behold. Look at that regal posture. Could be Bambi...

To all who love the Keweenaw:

We sure enjoy the beauty and wild-life that does abound in our great Keweenaw. Most people come here for vacations to see that beauty. The high fence that is erected along the road and goes into the channel in Bete Gris just doesn't fit in the picture. We sure would appreciate it if the fence could come down. I haven't talked to one person that wasn't aghast by this fence. Have a heart and take it down. Thanks

Interesting word Mikie. I was wondering if you were hungry because Precious didn't feed you breakfast or you were hungrey for tenderloins or hungry for the ambiance of the UP?

I think that deer hears the hiss as the sun touches the water when it sets up here. I was taking a break Thursday in Esrey Park from bicycling to Eagle River. A lone man drove in, got out of his car and sat at a picnic table with a brown paper bag. I did win a bet with myself (does that count?) when he pulled out a pasty and ate it then and there! A little envious, I was. I think Joanne is most right as yesterday I drove the back roads from Lanse to Big Bay to cook Lake Trout on the grill for my folks and sister and her husband. A lot of time on the road but the company and food was worth every mile.

Good picture of a graceful animal. Bill,I like your backyard visitors and the pictures you have captured of them. Yesterday we had a bright green Iguana scoot across our dock and I always see lots and lots of lizards...but no deer and no beaver.
