First Post

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 11:40 am:

Good morning!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 11:41 am:

Hey, I get the early bird? First and last time I might make it.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 11:54 am:

Wow, All you slackards see you don't have to be an early riser in order to be the early bird. I want to thank all of you who were too busy to log on, and thanks to Mary for waiting to start up. Also would like to thank Precious for being there when I had no hope of winning the early bird award. The rest of my family I know will be thrilled when they find out I have won. Then I want to thank all the little peope who have made this all possable. I am going to print this page and make a frame for it to hang in the wood shop. Once again thanks to all.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 11:56 am:

Congratulations on the early bird, Mikie!
Marsha, even though I don't know you, I have had you in my thougts and prayers. My father-in-law passed away last year. He was at home with family, which is what he wanted.

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 11:58 am:

Mikie,
You sound like you are on stage recieving an Oscar for best actor or something. Thanks for the chuckle this afternoon. You are too funny.

Afternoon Everyone. Hope you all are having a great day so far. This morning just flew by. I cannot believe it is lunch time already.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:02 pm:

Lorelei, I get so few awards that I must say my head has swollen to the point that my hats wont fit. It is nice to be recognised by my fellow Pasty Cammers.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:15 pm:

Ruth the mail lady just congratuated me as she was putting the mail in my mail box. She also sends her greetings to the Pasty Cammers.

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:18 pm:

Congrats Mike!

Nobody deserves the Award more than you!

Carry it proudly and uphold the rich tradition!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:24 pm:

Thank you Tim. Some day if you slack off enough you too will be able to asend to the Early Bird award.

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:25 pm:

Hey...did anyone see that show on the Travel Channel last night, think it was "Taste of America"?, and one of the features were pastries from Mackinaw...

What a joke...they got everything wrong...according to the show they were eaten by the men from the coal mines around Mackinaw...and they showed people eating them smothered in sour cream...and of course I won't even discuss the way the pasties were made.........

Sorry...just my rant of the day...

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:25 pm:

Have won a few over my time, Mikie!

By Margo (Margo) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:36 pm:

Congrats Mikie, Had a busy morning and just got home to sign on again. Keep up the good work.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:38 pm:

Tim, You aren't rubbing it in that this is probably the only time I will win this, are you?
Congratulations on your previous wins. I hope you win many more. one of my wifes relatives owns the Sands Motel there in Oscoda, the lake there is beautiful and the beach is really nice. Your lucky to be living there. I am stuck in an area that has no water near to it. We used to have a pond in the cementery but they removed it because of the coming bird flu. There were many ducks and geese that hung around there. But they wouldn't let me hunt them.

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:41 pm:

I agree Mikie...if I can't be in the U.P. this is about as close as you can get to it!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:46 pm:

Congrats Mikie...you are too funny :) So is Precious making dinner tonight, in honor of your award? When is your autograph signing? I see a book in the making: "How I Finally Won that Darn Pasty Cam Early Bird Award" :)

Timmer, I saw that same show about the pasty...very disappointing. Sour cream? Puuuhleeze!

Thumbgardner, Glad to see you back here. I have a question: a lot of the leaves on my maple tree turned orange (like they do in the fall), during the cold spell this spring. When those leaves fall off the tree, will they be replaced...or am I going to have a bare tree in spots this summer? Just curious. Thanks.

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 12:59 pm:

Hey Mikie...how's weather your way? I'm spending the weekend at Grandma's in the Oak..

By Betty Paull Colborn,AZ (Betty) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 01:32 pm:

Congratulations Mikie! Way to go!!
I am sad to hear they took the pond away from
the cemetery. I remember taking my boys there
to see the ducks when the boys were little. Also
at the one in Troy. Boy's loved it. Have a good day and enjoy your Award Day.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 01:48 pm:

I'd like to add my congratulations to those of yesterday to Ashley Byykkonen on her photography award. There are so many excellent photographers represented here, but it is special to see a young person recognized. Her photographs have been outstanding.

Mary says: Thanks, Maija, for reminding me that I wanted to post a link to yesterday's news about Ashley's award winning photographs! I mentioned that she was also a Regional winner, but forgot to say it was with a photograph of the Laurium Manor Inn!

By FJL (Langoman) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 02:05 pm:

Hey Mike, what part of the UP is the mail lady from? What "cementery" is it?? The one on the west coast or one in the UP?

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 02:31 pm:

Sur5er, was that tree question for me? If is was, I am only a home gardener. I always plant a large vegetable garden, and it is my favorite hobby. So that is how I picked my username. Good luck with your maple tree. That might be a good question to ask at a MSU Extention office. I don't know if you have a program like that in Indiana. But you could call a Michigan office. After all you are a true Michigander. They are usually very helpful.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 03:36 pm:

The mail lady is from Penn. and she and her husband have a place around St. Ignace She is a kind of yooper wantabee. I want to thank all of my well wishers. Was at the Dr. and have to go to several other MDs. to see what is wrong. every one is a specialist, my new specialaty is going to be the early bird award. Yea HaHa

By Norma in Midland (Normainmidland) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 04:19 pm:

Hi all, I am very sad to have to write to complain. We were in the UP 2 weeks ago and went to Bete Gris for a drive. And what should we find when we got there, but an 8' high cyclone fence all the way to the canal. I'm sorry, but now the whole area looks like a prison camp. For those of us who have been coming to Bete Gris since we were very small children and free to play, it's really, really sad. I understand that there is a need to keep out ATV's and snowmobiles, but is an 8' fence really needed? Just my thoughts....

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 05:24 pm:

Tim, There is supposed to rain tonite and possibly Thursday, but in the high seventies or eighty on Friday Sat., and Sun. hope you enjoy yourself here this weekend.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 07:08 pm:

Had a steak and baked potatoe for dinner, had to cook it my self but am still celebrating my early bird award. Cotton did you see that I won today? How about you Mary Jean? sur5er do you know any ghost writers? Maybe a good publisher, would be interested in my rise to early bird awardness. Charlie, will this get me any reconigtion at the Hut? Maybe a discount on desert? If you want a picture of me for the wall contact me and I will have one taken this weekend. I will be in Port Huron for the Feast Of Ste. Claire and will be battling the English Pig Dogs trying to wrest away the terratory of Michigan from the French. The Feast last from Saturday until about 5 P.M. on Sunday. Your all invited to attend. Look for me at the cannon throwing lead at the English.

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 07:44 pm:

Mikie, was going to ask you for your autographed picture. But decided I really didn't need one as I have a wonderful image of you in my mind...tall,curley blonde hair, wonderful muscular physicec(sp?) with big sparkling smile. We already know you have a marvelous sense of humor. Right? I'll be looking for you in People magazine soon. And a note to Deb S. don't forget your tape recorder for this weekend with your folks. Have a good trip and an enlightning visit. PS...summer arrived today. 88 degrees out with 64% huminity. Jep, summer's here.

By Margo (Margo) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 07:58 pm:

Mikie, I'm sure you enjoyed your day. I enjoyed just reading about it.........That steak and baked potato sounded great for dinner. My shipment from Omaha Steak's should arrive tomorrow. I've got hubby preparing the grill.
Have a safe & fun holiday weekend everyone.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 10:28 pm:

Mikie, You are SO funny! Lucky for you that I had to take my son to the emergency room this morning or I'm sure you wouldn't have gotten it. It's just that the picture wasn't up and ready when I had to leave. But I'm glad you're being so modest about the whole thing. I'm with Ms. Katie as far as thinking I might need an autograph but I think you probably look just like she described you. Women's intuition and all that, ya know eh:) We had stead and french bread for supper. We always have baked potatoes so decided that meat and bread was good enough. No darn wonder I can't lose any weight with all of this protein and carbs I eat. Anyway, congrats and may you have many more. (By the way, you have to get out of bed at a decent time of day to receive this award. You do know that, don't you?)

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 11:18 pm:

Decent time, I think that a decent time is about ten am or so. Boy you guys have to have your womens intuition tuned up. Bald, overweight, five foot eleven, artheritic, and severley nearsighted. As soon as I can figure out how to send pictures I will send one from this weekend. I do look better in my colonial French Marine uniform. I can wear my powdered wig then. I shave what hair I have off and have a long goatee. Unfortunatly I am not kidding. My picture is on my brother John DuLong's Habitant site. I would have a huge tatoo but I am afraid of needles. I can't ride a motorcycle since I have a hard time with my balance. Sorry to ruin your idea of what I look like. I can't make it on t.v. but would be good on radio.

By Cotton (Cotton) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 11:34 pm:

Mikie, look at yesterday's posts that were still on this morning. I wrote wondering where everyone was. I asked where you, Deb, Mary, Usedtobe, all of you friends were. I was afraid I'd not get my daily fix without having my pasty.com There was no today's picture or date. So cuz, I think you better share this precious oops, most honored award with me your cousin. OOOOOR you can make me dinner sometime.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 11:41 pm:

Your on, do you want to be in the book about my winning the award? Right now I am willing to share the last fifthteen minutes of my day with you.As of now I declare that Cotton and I are sharing the early bird award. What do you want for dinner? I will start practicing for the dinner this summer.

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Thursday, May 25, 2006 - 12:26 am:
