Brita Haapala and company, just welcomed a new addition to the family. Her name is Violet, but she really doesn't look like anyone else in the household! Seems like she's making herself right at home, already leading the pack on an excursion out back. The faces in the second shot tell the whole story about the excitement of the event, along with maybe just a hint of anxiety from Violet. But once she's on her home turf, she's sitting there proud as can be, as if to say, "I've arrived!" This reminds me of the day we brought our dog, Pippin home, the boys were so excited and rode in the back seat with him, feeding him puppy treats we had brought with us. By the time we arrived home, the treat bag was empty and the new puppy was throwing up from all the good intentions of the boys. :-> I'm betting these pictures from Brita will evoke a memory or two from your own childhood experience or that of your children, like it did for me.

In case you haven't heard, tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of pasty.com. It was May 31, 1996 when the name - and the first web page (the snow thermometer) - went 'on the air', with frequent updates, online pasty ordering, and 'glimses of life in the U.P.' Less than 2 years later the Pasty Cam became a daily habit for Charlie and Jonathan Hopper, later joined by Daryl Laitila, the late Dan Urbanski, myself, and hundreds of other contributors who share their love of life in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Hope you can spend some time this summer in the land of snow and pasties! (No promises on the snow ;o)

What an adorable little puppy. The rest of the kids are cute, too, by the way. Nice pictures.

The kids are cute and adorable, but it's the picture of the puppy that makes it all happen.

I love the photo of the puppy leading the way down the path, tail up, head up, fully alert and in charge with the kids following along behind. This photo is almost Norman Rockwell-ish! What a darling family. It sure is fun watching them grow up via pasty cam. Thanks, Brita.

Great pics! Next week I will be bringing home one of those cute puppies home too! I just won't be feeding her too many treats. Can't wait to have Lily the Lab home with our family! Thanks for sharing.

Ahhhh.....I wanna puppy too. Every kid should have a dog. Good lessons in responsibility, life, and unconditional love. Thanks for sharing Brita.

Wonderful pics. As with Mary, it brings back memories of
bringing our golden retriever pup home some five years ago
from the farm down in Ohio where we got him. In addition to
the pup urping on my wife's lap, we found out soon enough our
pup had brought home hundreds of little friends in his fur. We
kept the dog, but those little critters were soon on their way to
flea heaven.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh how sweet. I love the photo of the puppy.......she looks like she is posing just for her picture to be taken. I wonder if the kids picked out the name......sweet

I trust everyone had a wonderful safe holiday weekend.......it sure was a perfect one for the kids. I was happy to work in the afternoon and be in the air conditioning.....that muggy stuff just kills me, but it's better than snow. I was glad to wake up this morning and feel the cool breezes.......Have a great week everyone....God Bless......

What a charmer! I wonder who won the "Violet's Going To Sleep With Me" argument.... Best wishes to all for a long life with lots of happy tail wagging experiences.

By Brita Haapala (Britach) on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 11:57 am:

Thanks for the many compliments. We're not sure how big the puppy is going to get. Her mom is actually not that big (mixed lab), but all we know about the dad is that he's from a good neighborhood.
