Steve Erbisch looks like a happy fisherman, after catching an 11 lb. 2 oz, 31 inch long Walleye in the Lac La Belle area recently! Cathy Westcott snapped this shot of Steve and his catch right outside the Lac La Belle Lodge, as you can see in the background. Kind of makes you wonder if that fish made it onto the menu inside as part of the Friday night Fish Fry! Guess a picture like this answers the question... "Are the fish biting yet?"

Great catch. Must be nice to have that kind of opportunity.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 - 07:53 am:

Nice catch Steve. I sure miss those days of fishing the Keweenaw lakes landing lunkers such as that!!

Walleye, my favorite. Looks like a beautiful catch. Sure wish I had that planned for dinner tonight.

Dinner time! One of my last fishing adventures I caught a huge snapping turtle. It was hissing when I pulled it out, so I threw it, the pole, the whole works back in the lake and ran! Somehow Bob got the pole back.

Nice fish! What my hubby wouldn't do to catch one of those. He goes to Brule, WI, twice a year to catch trout but doesn't seem to manage to get them. I love trout. I love walleye. I love FISH!!!! Invite me to supper please?????

One of my favorite fall memories is of the time we ate at the Lac La Belle Restaurant. It was at peak color a couple years ago and at the perfect time of day: The sun was casting a beautiful, picture-perfect reflection on the lake. I planned to take a picture after we finished eating, but the moment had passed by then. But the memory is till preserved!

giant cast iron skillet with some onions and potatoes.

Wow, don't think I would like that big fish nipping at my toes, as I swam ;)

By Cotton (Cotton) on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 - 12:00 pm:

We've fished there. And also by the breakwall at Bete De Grese. Hubby got a nice fish there once. We were camping with friends so we did cook it over the fire in a cast iron pan with onions & potatoes. It was yummy! My son got a fishing pole for his birthday & we were camping there. He used his pole once then his little sister used it & she dropped the pole over the wall into the water. There went his pole!! He's never let her forget it! LOL
They used to have a croopy fishing tournament at Las La Belle years ago. Don't know if they still do .

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 - 12:09 pm:

Nice Fish! Can't wait to get to the Lodge and have a white fish dinner. Lac La Belle is one of our Favorite spots forsure!

By Charles in Adrian (Charlesinadrian) on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 - 01:05 pm:

Someone asked if the fish are biting. My wife and I were up to
Esky this past weekend (witnessed our son being sworn in to the
Michigan Bar on Friday - very cool!), and I can testify that the
fishermen were filling up the motels and waiting in line to get
their boats into the waters of the Bays de Noc. I guess those
waters are as good as it gets for walleye fishermen (along with
western Lake Erie), and after a week or so of solid rain the
fishermen couldn't wait to do some fishin.

By Ozzie W. (10330) on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 - 05:20 pm:

Sure must have been an exciting fishing catch.

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 - 08:32 am:

Cotton, that's too funny.

When my son paul was 2 we were out in the boat and
he had his brand new snoopy pole.

I turned and looked at him and he was sitting there with his head down. the conversation went something like this:

Me: Paul whats the matter
Paul: noting
Me: Paul where's your pole
Pau: I dunno
Me: Paul did you drop it in the water
Paul: (head down devastated at 2 years old) yea.

I had to turn away cause I was trying not to laugh so hard.

Take a kid fishing, it's good fun!

The biggest Walleye I ever caught was 5 lbs. 10 oz and was 26 in. long. Size does matter, you are makeing me feel inadequate.
