Roger Kangas and company are a daring bunch, heading to the top of Mount Bohemia for a downhill run on skis! This bunch looks like they're ready to take on the challenge of the slopes, safety helmets and all, but first they're taking a break for a photo op with a background beyond compare. The view from the top of that summit takes in Lac La Belle down below, where you can just make out one of our sponsors, the Lac La Belle Lodge, on the end of the small peninsula of land in the lower left of the second photo. The third shot brings it in close for you to have a better look!

During this anniversary month of the Pasty Cam, over on the What'sUP page Charlie is reminiscing how this daily feature began 2,925 days ago. As Paul Harvey would say... tune in for the rest of the story.

They certainly are a daring bunch. I am not so
daring. I would probably ride down on my
bottom. Snowshoeing and cross country are
more my style, but what a wonderful vista.

What a young group to be traversing Bohemia's "expert only" slopes!!
I have gotten too old and cautious (read: wise) to try that mountain...

What great shots today! I, however, would NOT be on skis but maybe a tobogan. We don't have much of anything like that around here to go sledding on. We do have a ski hill a few miles away, but I always wanted to find a nice spot to take the kids toboganning and never could. What a great spot that was to grow up with all of the hills for kids in the winter. Even the ice rink out here hardly ever has ice. Of course, the nice ice rink in Lake Linden is now a senior citizens home. I used to spend countless hours down there when I was young. The song "Norman" comes to mind because they played it over and over. Great memories!

I learned to snowboard at Bohemia, and have to say it's the best place to learn. You don't have a choice but to plunge down and steer clear of the trees. :D

Looks like fun.How did Mt.Bohemia get its name? When Jewish skiers meet each other on the slopes they say SLA-LOM....

Alpine skiing is what got me to the U.P. in the first place! Big
Powderhorn Mountain and Indianhead were like 2nd homes to me
as a teenager. I've only been to Lac La Belle in the Summertime.

Great, great pictures today..awsome sight and I have forwarded the pic to all in my mail box.I can recall as a kid skiing on Mt Ripley and Telmark & Rib Mt in Wisc but they sure didnt look this challenging. (maybe age makes a difference)

John: Lac La Belle is most beautiful in the fall. We happened to be there at peak color late in the day a few years ago for dinner. The reflections on the lake were awesome! I'll probably never hit the right day there and the right time of day like that again!

Good morning to Gary & Garth in Minneapolis!

By Louis (Bookboy) on Friday, March 3, 2006 - 11:27 am:

We are sitting here in Austin, Texas, in 80 degree weather with the air conditioning running for the first time this year. We'd much rather be at our cottage on Lac La Belle, that same view is equally beautiful during the summer on a four wheeler - great photos!
