Bob Fleury over at 906 Superiorland Sunrises shares today’s photos taken down at the Picnic Rocks Park in Marquette, hoping that the Angels be with the family of the young man who went missing this past week in the Marquette area. The Lady of the Lake Memorial Statue there at the park, by artist, Earl Senchuk, was publicly funded and is dedicated to those who have lost their lives in the currents of Lake Superior, especially those who lost their lives near the picnic rocks where there are dangerous rip currents in the water. The plaque on the angel statue says: “In these calm but treacherous waters of Lake Superior sixteen lives have been lost since 1961. This memorial serves to honor those lives and the lives of the ones before them. Through this knowledge from this day forward may no more lives be lost. When in Doubt Do Not Go Out.” The statue stands as a reminder of the dangers of the currents lurking in the Lake Superior waters between the park and the picnic rocks offshore.
We head southeast to the St. Ignace area with MI Playground for coverage of the Labatt Blue UP Pond Hockey Championship that was held a few weeks ago there. It’s an annual pond hockey tournament played on natural ice, in the elements on the Great Lakes – Lake Huron.

Hi A beautiful shot of the Lady of the Lake memorial statue. I hope the family of the missing man finds out what happened to him.
I once did go to the St. Ignace pond hockey event. It was a warmer winter and I think they had to go to different location, either a shallower bay or an inland lake. It's been awhile & I don't recall which.

Beautiful pictures. I've never heard of this place, but there are a lot of places I've never heard of. I guess it's on my bucket list now.

This is from Space Weather:
Readers, be alert for Moon halos this week. The Moon will be full and very bright. This plus cold winter air sets the stage for a variety of arcs, dogs, and other halos around the glaring lunar disk. Spaceweather.com

Beautiful pictures and I know the area very well. People think they can get out to those islands and those currents are very strong. It doesn’t take long to get yourself into trouble. Extremely dangerous swimming right in that area. Don’t do it!!

Picnic Rocks, also called Shiras Park, is on Lakeshore Blvd in Marquette. Uncle Chuck is correct, no swimming. I know someone who went into the water there and washed up by the Welcome Center in Harvey. It was tragic. We were just at the park this morning. The parking lot was like an ice rink. We were hoping to walk the NCT but decided to be safe and not.

Did everyone notice, March did NOT come in like a Lion?

Beautiful pictures! That orange sun! For Bob & I March came in like a Blue Point Siamese baby girl kitten. For the rest of Iowa March came in like a Lamb.

I noticed, Donna. Doggone it, anyway.
Congratulations, Janie. I really love kittens.
