With the first snow we received here in the Keweenaw, Melanie Hakala Rossi and friends went out exploring in the Lake Linden area with their trusty sidekick, Finley. He’s a poser in case you didn’t notice and he does it quite well. Melanie captured some classic shots with the fall leaves dotting the fresh snow, the white piled upon the apples remaining on the tree, leaves trapped under newly formed ice and check out that beautiful red rose! I love them all and couldn’t pick a favorite. Did you spot Finley in that first photo? He looks like he’s making sure the trail through the trees is safe for the others or maybe he’s just taking in all the beauty around him. What a great set of photos!

In today’s video from Living in Michigan, Andrew McManamon is talking about “What Michigan Winters Are Really Like”. “You’ll learn: What winter is really like across Michigan — Metro Detroit, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Traverse City, and the Upper Peninsula. How the climate has changed, why winters are different now, and what that means for homeowners. How to drive safely, prepare your home, and adapt to life when it’s 10° with a –20° windchill. The truth about heating bills, insulation, lake-effect snow, and the little things that make winter life here unique. Michigan winters can be brutal, hilarious, and beautiful all at once — but if you know what to expect, they’re one of the best parts of living here. If you’re thinking about moving to Michigan, don’t let winter scare you off — let it prepare you.”

Just a quick reminder, it’s opening day for Michigan's regular firearm deer season which runs through November 30, 2025. Wishing all hunters good luck and that they will all be safe while in the woods. And if you’re out and about walking in wooded areas, make sure you have blaze orange clothing on, so you aren’t mistaken for a deer.

I love these pictures. I have to say, though, that
I'm glad we didn't get much of the white stuff and
that it didn't stick around. It'll be here for long
enough.

Very artsy set!
Favorite is a toss up
between Apples in
White and A Rose in
Winter.

…and is that Finley an
imposter?

Quite a fabulous assortment of pictures.

These are all gorgeous...esp the rose...We don't
get "good" winters anymore. sniff. Those apples
will be gone...the deer and turkeys will eat them.

Good luck Hunters!!

While driving in winter, when you start losing
control, PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. It stops the drive
train, slows the vehicle down and you get it under
control again. Works everytime.

Also, if you see a deer, LAY ON THE HORN. It'll
scare them back into the woods and you won't do
thousands of dollars of damage to your vehicle.
That also has worked every time.

I used to buy a new broom for the kitchen,
and put the old one in the vehicle...that will
clean snow off your vehicle real fast....and some
people get jealous! LOL (I had a guy comment one
year...I asked him "Jealous much?" We both
laughed.)
