The gales of November are upon us, which is a wave watcher’s dream. Shawn Malone says that “Any wave day is a good day.” She sure captured some dandy wave shots recently, from big splashes, to big crashes, to rolling waves, all stopped in time for our viewing pleasure! I think she’s right about her assessment of it being a good day, but an even better day for us Pasty Cammers, since we don’t have to be out in the cold, windy, wet weather to enjoy the view!
For more of Shawn’s photography, click here: Lake Superior Photo

Today’s video from Shawn gives us some slow motion wave action with big, incoming waves in Marquette. Slowed down like this, you can really see the rolling and crashing quite well!

Spectacular pipelines! Surf’s UP, dudes and dudettes.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, November 19, 2022 - 01:51 pm:

Holy smokes! These are amazing. The video
reminds me of a Hawaiian surf day. Just
spectacular!! Thanks for braving the weather
to being us these.

Pardon the repeat, but I haven’t seen a post from FRNash in a

while…does anyone have any updates?

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Saturday, November 19, 2022 - 04:54 pm:

Great pics & video! "Catch a wave and you're sittin
on top of the world"

Those top two pics bring back memories, eh Jbuck!!

There's a beer commercial in there somewhere! lol

Alex, you raised my curiousity about FRNash, so i
googled Frank, (I knew that was his first name),
Nash and
Arizona. A Frank Robert Nash age 82 in Phoenix,
AZ.came up passed away 8-22-2022. No obituary was
available however, so I am wondering if this was
him..

By D. A. (Midwested) on Saturday, November 19, 2022 - 11:51 pm:

Fantastic rollers and breakers!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 07:49 am:

I'm thinking he has maybe posted something
since then but I'm not sure. Because we were
wondering a while ago where he was and then
something posted by him. Maybe Mary can
search? I'm not sure what that would all
involve. I hope he's OK.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 07:57 am:

Ya know, I may be thinking of FJL, too. He
hasn't posted in a while but then he did, so
that was good.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 08:31 am:

Okay, I went back through August and find
nothing from Frank. I hope he's OK.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 09:02 am:

Here I am again. It says Frank lived in
Phoenix,AZ, and Chassell, MI. So I'm
thinking that that is him. How sad that
none of us knew. He didn't even get
remembered at the end of the month because
nobody knew. If his family reads this, my
condolences.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 09:27 am:

So sad to hear about that, he was quite the character and he’ll be

missed. Thanks for the updates, Deb and JT.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 10:31 am:

Alex, that's how I thought it was pretty sure it
was him...he facebooked with me many times so I
knew where he lived and his age. Yes, he was a
character but yet he was a very interesting
person. He liked to hear about my horses.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 11:53 am:

The last post I can find by FRNash was on October 23, 2021...click the date here below to read it.
October 23, 2021

I'm hesitant listing him in this month's memorial, but everything points to him being deceased, so I will add his name for November's memorial. RIP FRNash...

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 04:37 pm:

I went back to see what Frank posted on that
day in October and, as always, there was his
familiar blue colored typing. He always did
that when he had a question or a remark
about somebody else's post.

And then the last thing he posted was to
tell me about a lighthouse that I might
enjoy. I can't remember if it was him or if
it's FJL who was always trying to teach me
how to make emojis on this site. I'm sure he
was as frustrated as my kids get with me,
lol. Thanks for asking about him, Alex. I've
wondered and just wish I would have checked
sooner. Insert sad face

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Sunday, November 20, 2022 - 09:18 pm:

I was really enjoying the pictures of Marquette and all the old stomping grounds.......... and then read the string about FRNash. Funny how when someone doesn't post for a while i don't think the worst, and here that was the case. Thanks Alex and Deb for asking and then finding out the sad truth.

By D. A. (Midwested) on Monday, November 21, 2022 - 02:31 am:

I often enjoyed the sense humor of FRNash. It was usually dry, but sharp, yet too often too forward and bold.

For the longest time, I thought FRNash was a woman.

By Iron Range (Ironranger) on Monday, November 21, 2022 - 10:27 am:

My recollection of his posts from here and JohnDee
was that he corrected a lot of peoples spelling and
grammatical errors. I always wondered if he was a
English teacher at some time. Rest in Peace FRNAsh.
There still appears to be no obituary and the
Division of Indigent People in Arizona is also
looking for information.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Monday, November 21, 2022 - 11:31 pm:

Wonder if MTU would have any information on him,
wasn't he a Tech grad?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, November 25, 2022 - 09:12 am:

Somebody has to have information. I wish if
he had family somewhere that they'd read
these posts. Thanksgiving came and went and
maybe there's a family somewhere has no idea
about what has happened. That's just sad. I
wouldn't know how to check MTU archives. To
say I'm not computer savvy would be an
understatement. And even though he drove me
crazy at times with his correcting
everybody, I still want somebody to come
forward for him. He did know a lot. And
there has to be somebody out there who loved
him at some point.
