Check it out folks... no snow on the grounds of the Whitefish Point Lighthouse campus. That surely must mean that spring is finally here UP North. Frances Czapski from the Whitefish Point Facebook page, shares today’s photos and mentioned that he was happy to report there is bare ground these days there and the shoreline is nearly free of ice and snow now. Frances also captured a shot of the Edwin H. Gott as it was passing by the Point a few days back. I bet the sailors are happy that they don’t have to fight through the icy waters now.

Today’s video gives you a good example of the difference just a few weeks can make in the snow cover. Chainsaw Chad’s Vlog made a visit to the Lighthouse back about two weeks ago, and you’ll notice snow on the sides of the road, in the parking lot and on the grounds still when they made this video.

Several years ago, we spent our anniversary at the crews quarters at Whitefish Point..middle of February. They are not available now during February. We had occasion to hear the antics of a resident ghost in and about our room. Place was deserted (except for us)..snow deep, road almost impassable up from Paradise. Lady did meet us, gave us key, could have had museum opened for a visit (declined have been to museum several times). Interesting views of frozen Lake Superior, with open areas that shifted around overnight. Bird observation area deserted and was an interesting diversion. Very memorable/unique stay...trips to Paradise for activities and meals were adventures in themselves! There were a few visits by maintenance crews...they thought we were nuts, but one of our best anniversaries!!

Pat & Glenda (Gormfrog), that sounds like an outstanding anniversary trip! Thanks for sharing it!

Pat and Glenda, would be really cool to know what
room you stayed in. We too had the experience of
being there alone. I also woke up to some eerie
and strange feeling and noise. It was INCREDIBLE
really. We also were there alone. IT WAS AN
AWESOME STAY. We went back a second time and there
was a whole crew that came in late at night an
woke us up. They were having a good party for
sure. So nothing strange happened on that night.

..Brenda, has been quite awhile ago, probably 2007-2009. Outside our door (we don't remember which), there was a room locked up, not available, being worked on. During the nights we heard, strange clanking, odd movement type noises, thought it might be coming from out in the hall or from our neighboring room. We stayed two or three nights during this visit. Eerie is a good description, the whole building had that strange feeling like it was being watched, cared for. We checked around each night, nothing. Good fresh snow, no tracks, from people or cars. Out and about most of the daytime, but workers did come for short times, lighthouse & main visitor building also had maintenance projects. We talked with them about their ongoing work, they mentioned something about some haunting reports. We have been to Whitefish Point half a dozen times, but only stayed there that one Winter long ago. At that time of the year the party was in Paradise, crowded with snowmobiles, every bar and eating place packed, but very orderly, nothing out of control....good times.
