We had some pretty nasty weather last week in the U.P... and the whole Midwest... and just about the whole country. Blizzards, flooding, tornadoes... welcome to Spring. Glancing at the Shoebox Memory that we featured on this day back in 2013, the "Standard" logo caught my eye. For a number of years the Eagle River General Store also served up gas to motorists passing through (and a few who lived there). The pump eventually shut down, with the nearest gas at Phoenix, a couple of miles up the road.

The old General Store was run by Edith Yokie for quite a few years. It just so happened in 1988 when dear Mrs. Yokie passed away, our family bought her longtime home. Over the years we expanded it, high above the dunes, just as you came into Eagle River (on West Main Street). It was another Edith's dream home, my wife Edie, who passed away 3 years ago this month. Eagle River has been a great year-round home for 30 years, but I guess I'm looking to downsize. Know anyone looking for a five-bedroom, 3 1/2 bath home with a great view of the Lake? Drop me a line :)

Have a good week :o)

Charlie, it just seems impossible that it has been 3 years since Eddie passed away. I hope you find someone who appreciates and enjoys your home as much as you have.

Hi Charlie, I know which Real Estate Co. I'd want representing my home, (in fact he did sell our place right away at LB) Northern Michigan Land Brokers, Josh Stein... he's got it going on U.P. there for sure!!

All good things come to an end. It always seems sad but new
adventures await both you and some new homeowner. I hope you
can sell quickly and also find a new place that you will love just as
much as the old. I agree with Uncle Chuck, Josh Stein is the only way
to go. Tell him what you want and he will both sell your house for you
and find you a great new place. Good Luck!
