Taking advantage of the beautiful late fall weather we've had, Carolyn Williams has been out doing plenty of exploring. Today she takes us to the Mouth of the Huron River in the Skanee area, past L'Anse. What a pretty spot, even in the late fall with bare branches. I especially like the shot of where the river flows into Lake Superior and the next one with the Huron Islands off in the distance.

After that stop, they made their way to Second Sand beach over near Pequaming, on the way back to L'Anse. Keweenaw Bay is pretty quiet in these photos, there must have been no wind at all that day. In the last photo, the water is so still, it's hard to tell where the water ends and the sky begins.

The past two days we've visited beaches from the Copper Harbor area, all the way over to L'Anse today. At the time I wrote these notes, we were hearing winter storm watch warnings, so it will be interesting to see if these beaches are actually covered in white now today, while we're looking at them still all sandy and calm.

Incredible pix, I love Keweenaw Bay!
Baraga Lakeside Inn was my UP-hub when I used to cruise on the Wing. The drive up 41 from Baraga to Houghton on a sunny day, was unforgettable.
Maybe again...someday. We sure do miss it, aye UC?

Thank you, Carolyn. Beautiful shots! The mouth of the Huron River has always been one of my favorite places.

Does anyone know if you can still drive out to the mouth of the Huron? I was able to the last time that I was there but that was many years ago. Over the years many of our favorite spots to visit have been taken over by conservancies and they then block off access.

Daveofmohawk, you can find out that info from Tracey at the Baraga County Tourist Info, located in L'Anse. We haven't been out there in a couple years, but I haven't heard anything about it being closed. You never know anymore!

I'll have to try the Lakeside Inn, Alex.
Last summer when Lake Trout was in short supply
around Houghton I drove to Carla's Cozy Inn just
north of Baraga. Always had great meal of Lake
Trout there and right on the water.
